Attack on Gov’t Building in Iraqi Holy City Kills 22, Wounds 106 Others

A series of four blasts killed at least 22 people in the holy city of Karbala, and about 106 others were reported wounded. The first blast, from a car bomb, took place at 9:30 a.m. and targeted civilians waiting outside a government passport and identity agency in the Bab Tweirij district.

The protesters were demanding the release of four men who were arrested following a deadly attack on Shi’ite pilgrims last week. The protesters said they would continue to hold sit-ins until the four suspects are released.
