Just a month after another brief public flirtation with the idea of withdrawing from Syria, President Trump once again said he wants US troops out of Syria, promising “big decisions” very soon. His first talk of a pullout was scrapped days later. This time, he backtracked almost instantly.
With French President Emmanuel Macron in tow, Trump told reporters that he and his allies are taking a long-term approach to Syria, and that this would involve leaving “a strong and lasting footprint” within Syria. He said talk of the long-term issues in Syria was “a very big part” of his discussions with Macron.
The idea that Macron is driving Trump’s decision-making was a big issue last week. Macron claimed credit for Trump agreeing to stay in Syria, but quickly reversed course, and insisted the two had always agreed on the issue.
Trump’s public position on Syria has varied wildly over the last several weeks. US policy, however, has not changed at all, with US troops on the ground continuing to build bases to house US troops in the long-term, and showing no sign that withdrawal is a serious possibility.
Whether or not this is simply a reflection of the difference between the Pentagon’s position on Syria and Trump’s own is unclear. Trump shows no signs of trying to extricate the US from Syria, however, beyond just giving lip-service to the notion.
Macron used to work for the Rothchild’s what did you expect.
1914 England & france divided up the oil fields of the middle east. They have done more harm to the area than one could imagine. France & england just do not want to accept that they are not colonial powers any more. They are employees of the USA who claim the high ground but always work in the gutter
Yes, indeed, Tom, 1914 England and France divvied up the oil fields of the Middle East, they’ve done more harm to the area than one could imagine. They simply don’t want to accept the fact they’re not Colonial powers any longer, they’re employees of the US who claim the high ground, but always work in the gutter.
Both of these countries are monsters, they were monsters a century ago, when they broke up the Ottoman and the Austro-Hungarian Empires, as well as Germany, and foisted the Treaty of Versailles upon Germany.
He has already put France on the road to destruction, so why not extend this around the globe and be like the big bad USA? Micron has nothing to recommend him, and the French voters foolish enough to vote for him share the blame for his disastrous actions.
Still does.
Globalist France is one of the main mooches of U.S. imperialism nowadays.
They need the U.S. in Libya and French African Sahel to protect their ‘interests’.
Interesting that the French imperial elites seem to want to expand U.S. aid to a second shot at their failed Syrian mandate from 1924-1946 as well.
they are both monsters
Russia, Syria, Iraq, and Turkey would, i expect, sooner risk an eruption of a wider or even a nuclear war rather than letting US and/or Nato wrest parts of Syria.
Trump is such a hypocrite he will announce the withdrawal of troops from Syria as they are replaced by mercenaries and jihadis paid for in US dollars.
I am going to segue off of your post here Antarcticus, of you don’t mind:

When I stop and think about it I more wished for victory of the opposite side the U.S. supported in almost every war since 1095 . I preferred Gaddaffi , Saddam and even Milosevic over what the US brought to those countries .So I can see no reason to get rid of Assad .
We entered the civil war when Clinton arranged arms for the newly hired “rebels” in Libya. We then helped relocate our new employees to Syria to claim to be rebelling locals. We are never going to leave Syria because we can control the oil pipeline by staying. The pipeline controls Europe which is our desire. We are living in a time of animal farm.
Last evening’s love-fest/bromance was repugnant. (After all of the hand holding and back slapping, I was almost certain we would be witness to a live porn show.)
Macron, so openly fawning over Trump (and Trump fawning over Macron) was beyond disgusting. (I guess the unjustified bombing of Syria acts as an aphrodisiac because these two men were clearly orgasmic.)
Maybe Trump thinks that he’ll be able to find political refuge when the US tries and convicts him of nefarious crimes…assuming Macron is still in power and not also in a cell. Settling in the glam and comfort of Paris is much preferable than Tel Aviv…or Moscow, I think.
Unfortunately, no one in the US government gets convicted of much of anything… Just following orders and business as usual.
N’est-ce pas?! (As the French say.)
You have that right, Donna, the Bushes, Clintons and Obama haven’t been charged, prosecuted and convicted of their crimes, they should be before Trump, since they committed their crimes before him.
Perhaps the EU decided someone had to stroke trump to stay in the loop….Macron got the short straw.
You are naughtier than me, lol. 😉
Well, Merkel or May wouldn’t be able to stroke him without puking bile, but, heck, the French eat snail.
Trump and his “little buddy” completely missed the body language of both their wives at this gala state visit. It was a grim spectacle for them, and both know the truth as no one else does.
Yesterday Micron (sic) was claiming to be guiding Trump in NOT destroying the JCPOA. Now he is doing the worst thing possible in Syria, after the illegal attack which showed the pathetic need to show off by the three “powers”.
If Trump doesn’t pull out of Syria soon It will mean Trump has reneged on his promise to not work for regime change but instead has switched to the establishment policy and desire to rule the world under the NWO No different from Obama , Bush or Clinton ..
The only strong and lasting footprint will be on America’s ass when we get kicked out of Syria by the coalition of Russia, Iran, Syria, Turkey and Lebanon.
J. P., you’re quite right, the only strong and last footprint will be on America’s ass when they get kicked out of Syria by the coalition of Iran, Syria, Russia, Turkey and Lebanon’s Hezbollah.
Pres. Donald J. Trump’s a fool not to pull all US troops out of Syria, he knows they’re in that country illegally, thus, he’s responsible as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces. He promised he’d pull them out, now, he must honor that promise.
you don’t need to worry until China also sides with Russia It will be China and Russia against the North America Terrorist Organization NATO
