US Marines are poised to withdraw their last 4,000 men from Iraq, handing over operations formally to the US Army. In October of 2008, there were around 25,000 Marines in Iraq.
Now, as Major General Tryon puts it, “Afghanistan is calling,” and tens of thousands of Marines are flocking to Afghanistan’s Helmand Province, facing growing violence and an increasingly hostile population.
In the meantime, the US will still have well over 100,000 troops in Iraq when the Marines leave, and it is not expected that any significant drawdowns will happen in Iraq until well after the March election.
President Obama has vowed to officially end “combat operations” in August, though officials concede that 50,000-75,000 troops will remain, and will continue to engage in combat, indefinitely past that date.
Americans have finally come to realize that the Hearts and Minds of the Iraqi People can not be won by murder and Mayhem? exactly what was accomplished after 8 Years ? exept for bankrupting your own Country and injuring your Soldiers for the financial benefit of a chosen few ?
America owns Iraq–that's all that matters to the devil's Chosen Ones.(AIPAC)
Good riddance.
if you haven't been paying attention the military has got its "long world" and bush jr's legacy of "remaking the middle east" is just getting under way. alot of countries will be "remade" by our government or by blowback.
there will be alot more casualties and Israel could very well be one, its path is unsustainable, and internal divisions in Israel are starting to show sighs of grow out of control, and you get one major "exudus" of jews, the state of israel is over. and its just another division of the pentagons army but instead of callin them the mujaheddin we'll call them the yehudeem,
when 2 groups decide to commit suicide tougher, its hard to say who is controlling who.
in the information age the only sin is ignorance.
if the control oppresion and subjegation you live under is the fact that you cant turn off the tv and read a book you need to rethink this whole "right to sovereignty" you claim.
