Fresh off of multiple major aid cuts to the Palestinians, efforts to get the vast majority of Palestinians stripped of refugee status, and the US office of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) closed, there are concerns of a backlash, with Palestinians saying that they are considering cutting all remaining ties with the US.
Jared Kushner, however, is downplaying the concerns, saying he believes that a series of punitive actions against the Palestinians will not in any way hurt chances of a peace deal. Indeed, he argued that it might lead to a “much higher chance of actually achieving a real peace.”
Kushner argued that the Palestinians hold to too many “false realities.” He says these views need to be changed, and that the US process is a radical break with the past. He added that the Palestinians deserved punishment for “vilifying” the Trump Administration over the Jerusalem embassy move.
Kushner says that the Palestinians will have to seriously consider the US peace plan, once it is proposed, if they are to be taken seriously. The Palestinians, and most of the region, already consider the plan dead on arrival, and many doubt it will ever be released publicly.
Please..the utter venality, and vile disregard of the Palestinians on all levels by Zionists, and their bosses in the Knesset gets more delusional by the day. All peace efforts directed by the US must be rejected and DOA.
As usual, the Izzies are in control of US policy…
The Pals have been brought to this juncture by following useless leaders like Arafat and Mahmoud Abbas. Soon they’ll lose the little they have left.
Of course, it is their fault, SOLLY, from an unbiased witness like you.
Actually Solly is correct. The PA has cooperated with the occupation. Let the Zionist entity face Hamas and let the two radical religious/fundamentalist organizations duke it out. Two peas in a pod.
Israel was ranked 29 out of 167 on The Economist’s Democracy Index.
That’s better than Belgium, Greece, Cyprus & at least a dozen other European countries.
And your point is?
Israel should be #1 given the veto influence it has over the US, the uber power.
30 years of negotiations with the Israelis, and their situation is worse now. Who’s fault is that?
Do you know any occupied people who have a “security arrangement” with their occupier? That is beyond insanity.
What sort of leader would be best for them, in your estimation?
Some like Umar or Saladin. Their current leaders (Abba, Erekat, etc) live in fancy houses in Ramallah and like nice suits and silk ties. Not the kind you’d want in the situation the Pals find themselves in. They’ve talked with the Israelis since Oslo and their condition has only worsened. The great Edward Said warned the dwarf Arafat against entering into an agreement in Oslo. But Arafat did not listen.
US/Kushner style peace deal really suits Israel under Bibi-destroy every Palestinian still alive. Problem solved.
I suggest that you look at photos of the destruction in Gaza. No one in those buildings could have survived. 250,000 Palestinians were left homeless, but alive because they had been warned that their homes would be bombed & they should leave.
If Bibi wanted to destroy every Palestinian still alive, why did he warn them?
“they had been warned that their homes would be bombed & they should leave.”
Exactly. And they should go back to the homes they were expelled from in 1948. Glad you and I are on the same page re the folks in the world’s largest KZ guarded by Israel..
We are all ultimately either Zionists or Palestinians
That line of thought is exactly the problem, denying the humanity and point of view of the other.
Israel and it’s supporters did that long ago.
Seeking freedom is not a False Reality.
Sending Zionists like Kushner, Kurtzer, Lasensky and Friedman into Palestine to negotiate a fair peace agreement is a false reality.
What do you think would be a fair peace agreement?
