Speaking at the University of Texas on Thursday, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson told an audience that while the US doesn’t specifically advocate for regime change in Venezuela, he believes it is likely that the military will carry out a coup d’etat against President Maduro.
Tillerson said he wasn’t sure abut the exact timing of the coup, but suggested the Venezuelan junta would be “an agent of change” for the nation. He also urged President Maduro to resign, saying that would be the “easiest” form of regime change.
His claim that the US doesn’t advocate regime change is laughable, as President Trump was not six months prior threatening to attack Venezuela outright, with Vice President Mike Pence dubbing the nation a “failed state” and a threat to the US.
Venezuela’s military has historically deep ties to the US, which has led to past coup attempts being pinned on the US. Tillerson, in his comments, may be trying to get out in front of the next attempt by disavowing direct involvement before it even happens.
So much for Trump’s noninterventionism.
Another fraud.
This will be a “beautiful” coup.
“This will be the most “beautiful” coup…the world has ever seen!”
There, fixed that for you.
“You’re gonna love it!”
Maduro’s secret plan was to allow Venezuela to become such an unfixable hole not even the remaining rightists in the military would touch it.
Rex apparently knows nothing about the current Venezuelan military, which is nothing like the military that briefly (less than 48 hours) overthrew the Chavez government in 2002. Even the Venezuelan opposition-controlled media do not provide any support for Rex’s coup fantasies. Maybe if Rex were to staff his largely vacant (physically as well as mentally) Department with professional diplomats, he might get a clue as to what has been and is going on in Venezuela.
The head of palace security has left Venezuela and gone into hiding
“Gold breaks rocks” Hernando Cortes.
The coup will come soon. The rise in oil prices will erase much of the trouble Maduro has been facing.
I see my war criminal government continues to beat that drum.
Come hell or high water those innocent citizens of Venezuela will be made to pay with their lives. All for a few more barrels of oil. Remember that were refining oil from dirt in Canada and destroying our water supply in the US. All for a little bit more energy. The end of this insanity can not come soon enough.
How come recent Secretaries of State are belligerent, when they are supposed to be about diplomacy. They sound more like Secretaries of War than State.
All Venezuela’s state-owned utilities and oil companies and all state sectors are in the sights of the global capitalists whose thug army is the United States. Tillerson would rather see Mobil own Citgo than the Venezuelan people.
STFU….!!!! Take your train wreck policy to Disneyland…!!! Sell it to the Clown Prince..!!!!!!!
