For the second time this week, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has accused the US of taking measures that risk splitting Syria, saying that the US is setting up “alternative bodies off authority” in the country.
Lavrov added this move was in direct contradiction to the long-standing US position on Syria, which is that the nation must retain its territorial integrity and must have a strong central government with no autonomous regions.
Russia had proposed earlier in the Syrian War that some autonomy could be given to breakaway regions to reduce tensions, and this was loudly spurned by the US. Yet the US-backed Kurds have established a massive autonomous region, and the US has been shoring up their control over that region.
Earlier this week, Lavrov was more direct in responding to a US announcement about creating a 30,000-strong force for the Kurds, saying that the effort to further strengthen the region was likely to lead to an outright split of Syria.
Lavrov, is up to Russia and Iran to keep this from happened.
I think when Russia came to Syria they were actually thinking they may have to fight the USA . I first thought this because of the capabilities of the planes they sent to Syria .and with 300 and 400 ground missile defense systems the Russian brought withthem .. This war never happened as the United States shifted their attacks away from defeating Assad to fighting ISIS . Now that ISIS is defeated and Russia is gone the U.S. seems to be again thinking about totally dismembering Syria and getting rid of Assad .

You just never know we change terrorists about as often as we change underwear . Although I can’t think of any Christian terrorists we have supported over the last thirty years , but than again they are not usually terrorists . So there is no reason to support them .

Note that on Col. Peter’s interpretation, one o the most well-known Western remaking proposals floating around, sees Kurdistan dominating the ME as one of its largest (but land-locked) countries, taking out half of Turkey.
The land theoretically composing Kurdistan does in fact take swaths of land from all the major ME states; Turkey, Syria, Iraq, Azerbaijan, and Iran, making it the perfect pawn for proxy war.
Using the Islamic State precedent, Kurdistan need not even be a formal state with borders; just a region of perpetual conflict. The Kurds would fight obsessively chasing the carrot-on-a-stick of statehood for whomever hold s the stick with the carrot.
I find it rich that Russia’s Foreign minister is complaining about America is creating alternative bodies of authority while Russia is using hybrid warfare and is arming the Pro-Russian rebels in the Ukraine to create a frozen conflict to keep them from joining the European Union and NATO because it’s in Russia’s best interests. Now we see other nations taking a play out of the ole Russian Military playbook and they don’t like to taste there own medicine. America is helping the Kurds create an autonomous region because they helped defeat ISIS and deserve that much. In reality Syria would much rather have the Kurds as a buffer between the Sunni Muslim Turks knowing Erdogan supported the rebels that wanted to dispose of Assad. Turkey doesn’t want the Kurds on his borders with Syria because he wants a buffer with his own Sunni Muslim people that way he controls access to Syria and he can invade Syria as he pleases under the ole ” I’ll protect my Sunni Muslim people wherever they are oppressed and are under attack notion” sound familiar? It’s the same reason Putin gave for his seizure of Crimea and the frozen conflict it created in Ukraine, now Turkey is using that same reasoning to invade Syria. I know people on this forum will twist themselves into a pretzel trying to make excuses and explanations that defies all logic for why Russia is not arming or supporting the separatist in Ukraine even though it makes perfect sense why they would do it because it’s in there nations best interests . Turkey is just doing what Russia is doing by making sure it’s borders are buffered by people who have Turkeys best interests at heart. Syria doesn’t want a border where Turkey has major influence inside of it’s sovereign nation and can create a frozen conflict at a time it chooses like what Russia did in Ukraine.America wants to reward the Kurds for helping defeat ISIS and a reason to stay in Syria so they’ll say they’re helping to train and equip the Kurds but, they’re really trying to curb Iran’s influence.Putin opened up a Pandora’s box in Ukraine now it’s ironic how his client state Syria is experiencing the same thing. You reap what you sow.

I don’t know what a sycophant is ? but you blame Russia for taking Crimea back . Something Russia had to do They have a powerful base there that controls the Black sea . Russia feels they have to keep up their defense or they will be attacked and dismembered like Yugoslavia was by NATO . You don’t hear much about what Yugoslavia is doing anymore . That is because Yugoslavia no longer exists . Russians want to run their own country They captured Crimea several hundred year ago from the Muslims it has only been part of Ukraine when Soviet Union disappeared . The people speak Russian and voted to leave Ukraine after the United States aided a illegal coup in Ukraine
The Kurds want to leave Syria and create there own autonomous region, the Turks want Assad removed and want Sunni Muslims on there borders with Syria it’s in there nations best interests, the Russians acted in there nations best interests by seizing the Crimea and creating a frozen conflict in Ukraine. I must say finally your the first person on this forum who actually acknowledges what Russia did in Ukraine and now what we’re witnessing in Turkey is just these nations making sure they do what’s best for there nations interests.
