Violent crackdowns overnight on Sunday against protesters have led to a violent backlash in Iran, as some of the protesters look to raise the stakes with attacks of their own against police stations, with reports of some posts and stations being set ablaze.
Monday was the fifth day of protests in Iran, which started with small economic protests in Tehran, and have since grown into major political protests that are increasingly expanding nationwide.
At least one policeman has been confirmed killed, shot with a hunting rifle, and three others were reported wounded. The killing took place in Najaf Abad, on the outskirts of the major city of Isfahan.
Iranian state TV also reported clashes at unspecified military facilities in the country, where protesters attempted to force their way in and were repelled by “strong resistance” from the troops within.
Hundreds have been reported arrested nationwide as Iran tries to keep a lid on the protests, but are struggling between calls by moderates to avoid making things worse, and calls by hardliners to restore order quickly and forcefully.
The only way to react is to crush these “protests” immediately and with overwhelming force. The rights or wrongs of them can be debated later; the requirement of the moment is that order must be restored immediately before Amerikastani terrorists can be infiltrated into the country to begin a Syria style destruction. If Ukraine had annihilated the “protestors” in Kiev in 2014 at the outset, making the Maidan run with Nazi blood, it would still be a nation today, not a shambolic wreck. Iran should take note of the lesson.
Where do You think all those “disappeared” ISIS guys will show up, when the time comes?
i hear the Shah’s Son is already lining up Air Force One for his return trip.
Protests my ass. This is a coup attempt lead by the CIA and Mossad funded by crypto-currency.
Those capricious fools actually think overthrowing Rouhani is a good idea.
A fractured Iran is what the little parasite wants. It’s a good idea to them.
They need to deal severely with those who commit acts of violence. If such things were happening in the US, there would already be scores of dead and many hundreds arrested. How many were arrested in DC after windows were broken on 1/20/2017?
Why would it be funded — or need to be funded — by cryptocurrency?
It would be difficult to smuggle and distribute the kind of cash that would pay for these kinds of mobs without getting the whole operation rolled up by Iranian Intelligence. It’s much easier to use crytpto-currency which can then be converted by the individuals into local cash. Kermit Roosevelt’s $100,000 would be millions today and it isn’t as easy in 2018 to play with that kind of cash in Iran without being noticed.
It would be difficult to “pay for these kinds of mobs.” And it would be doubly difficult to do so in currencies that are, at this point, probably used by a fraction of 1% of the world’s population.
The protests have been hijacked by outside forces. They want Iran to become another Syria. Rouhani is the one guy who can reign in both the parasitic crowd exciters and the reactionary hardliners who are unwittingly playing into the later’s hand by treating all the protester like terrorists. The Iranian people have some legitimate gripes that need to be addressed in order to take the wind out of the real terrorists sails. This sh*t is f**ked up but it ain’t black and white.
I don’t for a moment think that “all the protester” are being treated “like terrorists.” Water canon and tear gas are being used against rock throwers, just as in entity occupied territory, I imagine lethal force is being used against armed gangs attacking police and blowing up pipelines.
We simply don’t know enough about this to judge the character of these protests. Are these spontaneous eruptions of the Iranian working class over economic grievances, or are NED linked groups behind it? Why haven’t the Greens supported the protests?
Let’s remember that this is eerily similar to how the Syrian civil war started. The initial conventional police crackdown was met with shootings and bombings by radical elements of the opposition, leading the state forces to use even more violence, leading to an all out armed uprising from which Salafists reaped the vast majority of the benefits.
In this country of 80 plus million how many people are actually protesting against the government?
” started with small economic protests” then expanded…
Explainable, likely, by the fact that they do have an expensive foreign policy? E.g., fighting USraeli terrorist regime change (–er– letting-both-sides-hemorrhage-to-death) operations against an ally…
There’s a similar undercurrent in the US as well–that e.g. the wars are too expensive. We really should’ve just thanked them for defeating Al Qaeda’s bad cop wing for us. Instead Trump’s obeying Bibi again?
Trump always made it clear he was anti-Iran and would attempt to make war with “the greatest state sponsor of terror” after the US and the entity.
The USA looking for a UN Security Council meeting is priceless, it was two weeks ago that Nikki and Donald were telling the world the UN was a bag of crap.
