US military officials are reportedly furious after Turkey’s state media published the locations of 10 previously undisclosed US military positions inside Syria, saying that the publication was a major security breech and endangers the lives of troops.
The list provided not only the locations of previously secret bases, but also provided estimates on the number of US troops inside. They say they got all of this information through reporting trips inside Syria and observing the facilities.
US officials see this as petty move by Turkey to spite the US for its continued support of the Kurdish YPG. Turkey considers the YPG “terrorists,” and has been fighting against YPG forces further to the west, in the Afrin District of Syria.
Turkey’s Erdogan government, however, denies any involvement in the leaking of the locations by its own state media, saying they had no role in the decision-making process and would’ve considered it “unthinkable” to publish the informaton.
with ‘allies’ like this, who needs friends?
I got a laugh out of this; and also out of Erdogan’s denial as the press there now is so tightly continued it can’t be true that the upper echelon of the turkish gov’t didn’t approve the ‘leak’
LOL
… There’s a good excuse, they weren’t thinking.
Thank God for the Kurds a True American ally who has fought alongside us against ISIS to protect it’s people.I’m sure Assad would much rather deal with them as a buffer state in between the Sunni Muslim Erdogan the person who calls the Kurds terrorists and sends arms to the Sunnis fighting against Assad. In my opinion he’s turning into a modern day Saddam Hussein locking up everyone he suspects of having a different opinion and recently stating he wants to start chopping of heads just like the people he supports.I believe the Kurds would make a better ally and Turkey isn’t a true NATO ally more of a fox in the hen house.USA
I think it’s mostly Israel that is pushing the Kurdish independence movement. The US is following as usual.
I to am all for a new Kurdish state coming from Syria , Turkey , Iran and Iraq . Doesn’t the world believe in democracy and freedom any more . Or did that all end after the special case in Kosovo for only 2 million people . Kurdistan might be a great country for establishing a middle east democracy .
Oh I think maybe Turkey is a true NATO ally . If one considers NATO to be what the NAZIs were . Which NATO surely seems to be following in the NAZI’s foot steps where ever they go . Befriending the same people and making enemies of the same people Take note NATO has now got up to where the NAZIs met their only real opposition . Russia and China can’t see any difference in what NATO wants and what the NAZIs wanted .
NATO has kept smaller and weaker nations from being bullied for their resources and kept their territories from being gobbled up by it’s bigger more powerful neighbors thus, keeping countless people from being murdered if a war started over those resources and territories.I thought this was an Anti-war site,if NATO prevents wars why are you mad?USA
This is what the US gets for kissing up to Turkey for so many decades, and being afraid to “offend” the dear little Turks.
Kissing up is a hard habit to break.
It’s more like “bending over” than kissing up.
The United States has no business getting involved in these foreign wars when we don’t know who the enemy is . Turkeys says the Kurds are terrorists and the United
States says the Kurds are just fine . The United and Russia say ISIS is the enemy So the United States furnishes support for the moderate rebels , Al Qaida an Al Nusra . Russia says we are supporting the terrorists . In my best judgement the United States has been supporting the worst Muslim terrorists all along for the last 20 years . In every country we have had our nose in .
