The Times of London is citing unnamed Western diplomats as saying that the deal between Israel and the West on the issue of Palestinian statehood is taking shape, and that Western officials are offering to back an Israeli attack on Iran in return for certain concessions, including the recognition of some of the Palestinians’ land claims.
Israeli forces have been moving into position to launch such an attack recently, and with the West publicly coming out in favor of a diplomatic rapprochement with Iran it seems incredible to learn that behind the scenes they are offering not only to turn a blind eye to a unilateral Israeli attack on Iran, but to openly endorse it.
Israel has repeatedly threatened to attack Iran, claiming the nation is covertly developing nuclear weapons. Iran denies the charge, and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) concedes that there is no evidence that Iran is actually seeking nuclear weapons.
The potential attack on Iran’s civilian nuclear program could create a dramatic anti-US backlash, according to Secretary of Defense Robert Gates. He cautioned that this would be the case whether or not the US was responsible for the attack.
There is no way in the world Israel can attack Iran. The west may even give lip service to Israel’s wet dreams of attacking Iran but they will not back Israel in any war that Israel starts.
At best what Israel can do is ONE surprise attack by air which by itself can achieve nothing and seeing that Israel Army (even though they couldn’t even fight Hezbollah) has to go through 2 countries to get to Iran (Jordan and Iraq) then it really becomes a missile war which Iran can match Israel very easily and give Israel a taste of its own medicine.
At the same time take in to account the size of the 2 countries. How many missiles does Israel has to send to Iran to cause a serious damage? And how any does Iran have to send to cause a serious damage to Israel?
Even on Nuclear level all Iran has to do is send missiles to hit the Dimona Nuclear plant to have the same effect as nuking Israel.
Also:
The western world would be well advised to learn about the Iranian psyche, not only they are not afraid of fighting to death but unlike Arabs they think ahead and plan how to fight with as little or as much as they have.
I was in the Iraq-Iran war between 83-85 and I am telling you If a war starts every Iranian will be united and first in line to fight back.
In all of the talk and chatter about bombing Iran's nuclear facilities, there is never a mention of the contamination consequences of doing that. Never in history has it happened that someone bombed a nuclear facility. Reactors are encased in domes of concrete to contain any accidental releases of radiation. Containment was breached at Chernobyl, contaminating a wide area, but most of the radioactive fuel is still in the reactor. Imagine the consequences of using bunker-buster bombs to intentionally destroy the protective domes and to intentionally cast all of the reactor's radioactive materials into the atmosphere. Bombing Iran's reactors will kill millions of Iranian civilians, as well as those of other nations depending on which way the wind is blowing. The Union of Concerned Scientists has estimated that bombing the Esfahan nuclear refinement facilities will kill 3 million civilians in 2 weeks and will expose 35 million people in Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan and India to lethal doses of radiation. In 1981, two US physicists, Fetter and Tsipis, wrote in Scientific American on “Catastrophic Releases of Radioactivity” caused by bombing nuclear reactors. In one scenario, bombing a reactor in Wisconsin would send a radioactive plume across Chicago, New York City, all the way to Bermuda, making those cities uninhabitable. In another scenario, bombing a reactor complex in southern Germany would make all of northern Europe and UK uninhabitable. Iran's Bushir reactor, loaded with 80 tons of enriched uranium, sits right on the Persian Gulf shore, just east of Kuwait. Bombing Bushir will render the Persian Gulf uninhabitable. One half of the world's known oil reserves are in the Persian Gulf (Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Kuwait, Iran). Bombing Iran's reactors should be seen as an act of economic warfare against the USA, EU, China, Japan and everyone else who needs oil for their industries, agriculture and transportation. Bombing Iran's reactors will mean that all nuclear reactors in the world are legitimate targets for conventional or unconventional attack. When the royal families of Kuwait and Saudi Arabia all take sudden holiday trips to New Zealand or Argentina, then the rest of us know that a new Dark Ages is about to begin.
All Israel wants is to blackmail the U.S. into doing its dirty work for it.,the way we did in Iraq. Israel and their vicious lobby are working to use American military and tax dollars to attack Iran. This would be a disaster for us : oil prices through the roof, a destroyed U.S. economy and one million dead Iranian civilians. But this is what Israel wants and our spineless politicians will probably give it to them. Meanwhile, Israel will never make peace with the Palestinians, but rather, continue to steal more Palestinian land and continue their starvation blockade on Gaza. The U.S. will never be safe until we end our dangerous and expensive alliance with the criminal, thug nation of Israel.
Ray Gordon is absolutely correct. There will be no peace in the world so long as the United States continues an alliance with Israel and backs its aparthied policies and Israel's disdain for international law. I
While Israel has this persistent fantasy of attacking Iran and destroying their nuclear industry, this latest story seems much more like a propaganda ploy than an actual prognosis of future events. America cannot allow — nor be coerced into allowing — an Israeli attack on Iran. The blowback would overwhelm US forces throughout the region and topple the government of Pakistan as well as ignite civil war in Afghanistan. This story is just an Israeli ploy to threaten Iran — in syncopated unison with Hillary Clinton's bellicose verbosity before the CFR. Israel's game is to demonize Iran so as to camouflage her own massive human rights atrocities in Gaza, the OT as well as to repair the torn and tattered veil of secrecy over her own rogue nuclear program. Frankly, it is utterly outrageous that a nuclear rogue state has manipulated the entire western world — not to mention the sole remaining superpower — into ignoring its flagrant violations of international law. It is now clear that Obama and Biden both see through this subterfuge, but Hillary Clinton and her errant husband, Bill, do not — they are willing pawns who are satisfied to collect massive sums for their presidential library in Arkansas — which are nothing more than bribes from the Israel Lobby. When Afghanistan goes pear shaped, I suspect that Hillary Clinton'' head will be the most likely candidate for the chopping block.
What kind of an insane society are we in. Lets nuke Iran and everyone else and then we can just get on a ship and travel to a new planet…yeah thats the ticket. This is insanity to even consider attacking nuke installations anywhere. Humanity is its own worst enemy.
Will it take a few supersonic sunburn missles to send an aircraft carrier and a few cruisers to the briny deep before Americans wake up? William Lind rightly said that we just may see America lose an entire army in Iraq with these sorts of stupid antics. And rightly so. Now that would either sober this nation or push the neanderthals over the edge for blood but one thing is certain… with the straights cut off the Iranians would bring the global markets to their knees so someone had better give Obama a good slap in the face to wake up before he goes any further with these fevered fantasies orchestrated out of Tel Aviv.

America cannot allow — nor permit herself to be coerced into allowing — an Israeli attack on Iran. The blowback would overwhelm US forces throughout the region and topple the government of Pakistan as well as ignite civil war in Afghanistan and precipitate nuclear terror inside mainland America. There's an old story about a fellow who takes a commercial flight for the first time in his life. After a few minutes, the captain announces he's lost an engine, stresses the aircraft's safety and adds the only real problem is the inconvenience of arrival 20 minutes late. Half an hour later, the captain announces loss of a second engine and arrival 60 minutes late. Yet another hour later, he announces loss of a third engine and arrival 2 hours late. Suddenly, our passenger says to his neighbor "Gosh, I hope he doesn't lose the last engine — otherwise we'll be stuck up here all day."
The continuity of the current Administration over its predecessor is unfortunate but unsurprizing.
Any strike package that failed to secure radical regime change would, among other things, cause Iran to drop out of Nabucco, which would seriously jeopardize US oil strategy out to contain China and Russia ad well as to reduce European dependence on Russian oil.
