The presumptive incoming head of the House Foreign Affairs Committee Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R – FL) today said she believes that the new Republican-dominated House, and her committee in particular, will be able to push President Obama into an even more hawkish foreign policy.
“I think it strengthens the president’s hand,” said Ros-Lehtinen saying that a “tough Congress” would allow the president to be more overtly hostile to Iran, Cuba, North Korea and Venezuela, whom she called “rogue regimes.”
Rep. Ros-Lehtinen also suggested that the new Congress could allow a more “hard line” position with respect to China, making a number of additional demands against the nation with regards to its human rights violations.
A number of returning GOP Congresspersons have suggested that they will try to out-hawk President Obama, pushing for more war funding and keeping the wars going as long as possible. This may put them in conflict with the incoming Tea Party Republicans, who campaigned around financial responsibility, not foreign policy, and will find it difficult to argue simultaneously for a balanced budget and for runaway war spending.
What people like Rep. Ros-Lehtinen have to realize that the US is no longer the world leader as it once was and can no longer dictate to areas like Latin America. The US is broke and must cut military spending and stopping invading other countries. Also how can the US dictate to China when it is China that controls so much of the US foreign debt.
Of course this more aggressive policy will involve a war with Iran. Lets preach human rights to China and then kill thousands of Iranians. The gang that brought us the Trillion $$$ spectacle in Iraq can't wait to roll out the new 2011 model.
Who now doubts that Obama can be pushed in almost any direction by almost anyone?
Especially those with money in the bank or those who own the banks.
"Ros-Lehtinen saying that a “tough Congress” would allow the president to be more overtly hostile to Iran, Cuba, North Korea and Venezuela, whom she called “rogue regimes.”"
Exactly !
Because all our problems, all of them, here at home are the fault
of all those, out there. Everyone's out to get us, and take what we have.
So what's next on Ros-Letinen's agenda of pandering to Florida's wealthy pro-Israel population– biting the head off a Palestinian child's pet gerbil at the next Miami Dolphin's game?
The quote is incomplete. She actually said that the new Congress will allow Obama to act more aggressively to counter North Korea, Iran, Cuba, Venezuela, Syria, Libya, Sudan, Somalia, Yemen, Pakistan,
Bolivia, and Ecuador, and make sure all those countries know that "all options are on the table." Regime change may be necessary for all of them.
Oh, yeah, and China too.
This is one evil chick. How in God's name did she get into this position of power?
