Three Turkish Soldiers Killed in Iraq; PKK Targets Hit in Retaliation

Six Kurds believed to have been killed

A new round of attacks took place in northern Iraq, as PKK fighters attacked and killed three Turkish soldiers. As expected, the Turkish military retaliated against PKK targets.

Turkey referred to this as a terrorist attack in Iraq. They reported six Kurds killed in retaliatory strikes. They added that the offensive in Iraq remains ongoing.

Turkey is at near constant war with the PKK and other Kurdish groups. Turkey’s parliament authorized troops to go into Iraq and Syria to chase after them.

It is rare for the PKK to move against Turkey, especially inside Iraq. Whether this was a unique situation or a sign of things to come remains to be seen.
