Israeli Planes Kill One, Wound Three in Central Syria

Second attack this week in area near Palmyra

For the second time this week, Israel carried out an airstrike against central Syria, near Palmyra. One soldier was reported killed, and three others wounded.

Both strikes saw Israeli planes coming from the area of al-Tanf, a US base in Syria, suggesting the strikes were done with US blessing and cooperation.

It’s not clear what was being attacked, beyond a communication tower, and Syrian state media reported attempts to intercept the rockets. Interceptions generally keep the damage from such attacks low.

Israel’s attacks have been on the rise in recent months, and now they hit Syria several times a week. Israel generally does not comment on the attacks, though they have tried to spin the operations as targeting Iran.
