In the course of reiterating allegations that Iran is sending small arms and drones to its allies abroad, the US State Department also issued a threat to attack Iran. They warned the US “will not hesitate to use military force” and that the option remains open for Iran.
The US has been threatening to attack Iran for decades now. The threats had calmed down in recent years, with the P5+1 nuclear deal, but with the deal subsequently dishonored by the Trump Administration, it seems the old status quo of constant sanctions and threats is returning.
The allegations about drones and arms center around Pentagon-provided images of wreckage which they say contained the logos of Iranian arms makers. The arms shipments are said to center on Yemen, in keeping with Saudi allegations.
Iran has denied such claims in the past, and views these occasional State Department presentations as being done primarily as a political stunt to allow the administration to keep threatening Iran.
Trump must keep up with traditions set ip by zealots who run the country — he has to start one meaningfull war.
To state the obvious, this pretty much goes beyond stupid but who is surprised. This is not foreign policy, it is simply playground threats by a number of goons in state, nsc, and prob defense.
Every time I hear the word “option” as related to war I want to grind my teeth in frustration. The only permissible wars are defensive; all else is a war crime, as described so well by Judge Jackson at Nuremberg. Option is just such a flippant way of describing the most monstrous thing humans can do to each other and this country has gotten so used to it.
War is not an option. It is not “on the table.” It is a last resort when we are actually attacked.
When your only tool is a hammer every problem is a nail.
Oh well, the largest state sponsor of terrorism in the World continues to threaten other countries unless they totally succumb.

As to the P5+1, in 2 years when Prez. Trump is out of office this will be re-activated by the Dem Potus. People are just waiting to go back to the Deep State status Quo, and 2 years is a very short wait.

I’m not sure, Wars … it seemed to me (though I can be/am wrong frequently) sometime during the Obama admin the Deep State realized that the better long bet in the ME was to slowly disengage in favor of concentrating on China, the real threat to hegemony.
To do that, they need the locals to take charge (under the hegemon’s oversight, of course) and the natural long term powers of the ME are the troika of Iran, Egypt and Turkey.
Only the US is allowed to sell drones and small arms to it allies….and enemies.
