State Dept: US Has Barred 21 Saudis From Country Over Khashoggi’s Death

Vast majority of banned Saudis had US visas

Elaborating on announcements of a first round of sanctions and punishments of Saudis over the killing of journalist, and permanent US resident, Jamal Khashoggi, the State Department has revealed that 21 Saudis had their visas revoked, or were otherwise declared barred from entering the US in the future.

The State Department has not named the 21 people, but indicated the day before that they would be involved in intelligence services, the foreign ministry, and other ministries believed to have been involved in the killing.

Officials indicated that this was just the first step, and that it would not be the end of the US say in the matter. They also say of the 21 banned, the vast majority had US visas already, which have all been revoked.

Saudi officials have yet to respond to this first round of US moves. Officials had previously indicated that they were prepared to punish the US severely, including massively increasing the price of oil over any sanctions.
