Iraq Commander turned CENTCOM Commander turned Afghanistan Commander turned CIA Director David Petraeus spent the weekend unemployed, having resigned on Friday in the face of evidence he gave his girlfriend access to classified data.
But despite what one would figure is a wide open schedule, with his government career in tatters and his political future presumably dead, indications are that the “retired” general is “too busy” to testify on the September 11 attack on the Benghazi Consulate.
But the scandal surrounding both the literal and figurative Petraeus Affair continues to grow with or without him, and has even has a potential Benghazi link now, with the discovery that Petraeus’s girlfriend Paula Broadwell recently made a claim that the Benghazi attack was centered not on the consulate but on the CIA safehouse, which she insists was housing detainees.
The CIA denies this, but a claim that was totally ignored at the time because there was no reason to take Broadwell’s word for it, is getting a lot more attention now that it is known she had classified documents on her personal computer and could well have had inside access on the CIA’s info on the attack.
Broadwell’s classified data access is also having fallout beyond Petraeus now, with eyes turning on Attorney General Eric Holder, who knew about the investigation for months but reportedly kept it a secret until the end of the November 6 election, at which time he told DNI James Clapper, who advised Petraeus to resign.
There was already a lot of anger about the FBI not coming forward with information to Congress about the investigation as soon as it was apparent that there was a national security component, but if it turns out the Justice Department deliberately kept it under wraps to avoid any political fallout before the election, the scandal is even bigger.
And that could be the tip of the iceberg. If Broadwell’s claims about the CIA holding detainees in Benghazi also turns out to be true, that whole separate scandal is potentially far bigger, as keeping that secret, along with the administration’s already shaky history of truth-telling on Benghazi, could suggest there really was a cover-up in the wake of the attack on the consulate, that the Obama Administration lied about ending the use of CIA black sites, and got their own ambassador killed in doing so.
The possible fallout of all that, even coming after the presidential election, is virtually unfathomable, and as a part of the story continues to center on a sordid affair the real information about very really issues seems to be coming out as well.

She may be a total whore but she's a marketing genius. You can't get better advertising than she's getting for her book now.
As a pro marketer …. I absolutely agree !!! . All marketing is "whoring" …. and she is extremely good at it . Good for her ….
Wasn't he the general while in Afghanistan said something bad about Obama in a interview with Rolling Stone magazine…? Then he was sent home to be the CIA director…, OH boy.., if thats the case then Obama really have the power and control to bring someone, even if he is the CIA director, down and for good.
Lets think about it … Re – read the first paragraph …. "A" turned "B" turned "C" turned "D" … he did was most American business man do …. Do stuff that is way over their head !!!!

True, but don't cry for him. I'm sure that with his pensions, book deals and other payoffs he will make more in a year than most of us make in a lifetime.
Exactly right. Plus, he is probably too busy to testify now because he is going through offers from lobbying firms, defense businesses and the media.

True, but it will have exactly 0 affect on Obombya. The sheeple won't even notice as they are too busy with things like Justin Bieber's break up (or was that breakout?). And for those paying attention, well when did we little people mean anything in matters like this?
Anyhoo, Obombya's a lame duck, plus the Democrats will make sure the House doesn't do a thing, so he probably is just laughing at it all right about now.
It was NOT a US consulate in Benghazi, but a rented villa we now know was a CIA hive of activity.
O, what a tangled web we weave…
Another Lance Armstrong but with a jazzier jacket.
Petraeus looks like such a do-che.
Who cares what happened in Benghazi? Some Imperialists were on the right side of a gun for once, it should happen more often.
I hope “national security” was compromised, because those words clearly have nothing to do with the health or safety of ordinary Americans.
It seems very, very hard to believe that Obama said he was going to close CIA offices in diplomatic facilities. It's not like that's something that's been going on since Bush 43; the US (and other nations) has been doing that kind of thing for many, many decades.
And what would have happened if the info about Petraeus had been released? The idiotic Republicans would have demagogued it, with no principle whatsoever.
The only fundamental principle at issue is whether we should get involved in wars that we have no fundamental interest in.
Unfortunately, the support behind such wars is bipartisan. Yes, the Republicans made some noises about Libya, but the idea that their opposition was principled is laughable (a handful exceptions exist to be sure, but they're sadly very few).
Incidentally, no one (on this site or any other AFAICT) have revisited the absurd, sickening Congressional condemnation of MoveOn for the "General BetrayUs" incident.
Can you be more specific about what wars you consider the US has "fundamental interest" in? Except for direct attack -which is negligible because nobody would dare attack America- there is NO war the United States of Crime has the right to wage.
Now watch the illusions of good that will come pouring out of the White House, for this is state-of-the-art stuff in the realm of mental darkness.
"…this is state-of-the-art stuff in the realm of mental darkness. "
Nice turn of phrase, John.
Petraeus was never anything more than a puffed up neocon protoge advanced by their "prostitute press media", who failed at everything he ever attempted. In Iraq (3 times), Afghanistan and in the CIA.
Frankly this looks like the CIA/Likud and their October surprises again. No surprise that a "frustrated" FBI agent went to none other than arch israel-firster Eric Cantor. The only real question is whether Broadwell is an Israeli honeypot.
The two women involved in this controversy are Zionist Jews with dual American/Israeli citizenship. Petraeus was "set up" because he was coaching Obama on "Putting Israel in its place". Over 4 Generals and one Admiral have been arrested or terminated in the last two months. Our military leadership has been changed to one more of Israel's liking, a leadership that will attack Iran for Israel. Americans are Israeli slaves. We not only fight Israel's wars, we pay for them in lives and cash.
Any evidence for these claims?
