Russian Defense Minister Anatoly Serdyukov today warned that Russia would not hesitate to deploy Iskander missiles in the exclave of Kaliningrad if they perceived a threat in Eastern Europe, an apparent reference to the US missile defense plans.
Russia had previously discussed the Iskander deployment last year to counter the US missile defense in Poland. It seemed that this possibility was eliminated when the US abandoned that plan.
But the new, alternative defense plan will put US missiles just 35 miles from Kaliningrad, even closer than the previous plan. They also plan to put missiles in Romania.
In addition to giving the Russian government pause on the Iskander move, officials insisted again today that the US missile defense deployments were stalling the talks between the two nations on a new nuclear arms reduction treaty. The US has insisted the two issues should not be related, but Russia has insisted that it is unreasonable to agree to reduce their nuclear arsenal at the same time as the US is putting defense missiles that reduce the arsenal’s effectiveness along the frontier.
In my opinion, all the presence of US troops in Europe and Asia, as well as the reason for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan are for encircling Russia and China. Russia is still able to strike against the US, even though its status of super power is decreasing more and more. With China it's the opposite. What makes Russia so interesting are the huge natural resources of this country which are not even known by now. The change in Russian politics after Jelzin's sellout has contributed to the hate talk about Putin in Western Media. Only a few countries around Russia are not in the influence of the US and NATO, among them Iran. Russia knows well, if the US and/or Israel change the power structure in Iran, und the US would get military bases in Iran, it lost another neighbor it can trust.
So, I'm somehow puzzled that Russia is not anymore considering selling the absolutely defensive S300 system to Iran. It should be doing so for its own safety!

i forgot who used the term first but its just another case of the us playing checkers while their opponent is playing chess.
unlike the united states, russia has been severely humbled. they are not play the cold war game like the US is.
and there really is no reason for them to give up valuable air defenses for a war that would be won in the air anyhow, and lost on the ground. defense in depth.
According to former Trident missile engineer Bob Aldridge-http://www.plrc.org-the missiles to be deployed in Romania and Poland are part of a first strike force – – to shoot down surviving Russian missiles which are launched in retaliation. Please send mails to members of Congress and the Senate and explain that the result of this will be Launch On Warning and possibly suicide by mistake because of the bloody fools in the bloody Pentagon.
In the meantime, the Russians should be modernizing their ballistic missile submarine fleet so they can park it off the US coasts.
"….putting defense missiles that reduce the arsenal’s effectiveness along the frontier."
frontier sounds like wilderness this is the core of Russia's developed territory
Russia and India To Develop Supersonic Missile Invincible to Interception
http://english.pravda.ru/russia/economics/16-10-2…
It is unique since it’s the only cruise missile in the world that can be launched both as a single unit and a group. Its highly intelligent operational system allows the missile to reach the speed of Mach 3.0, which is three times faster than the speed of the subsonic American Tomahawk cruise-missile). BrahMos can engage any sea target, and a group of these missiles can destroy an entire ship formation.
The missiles are so clever that they not only detect a target but develop a plan of attack based on the enemy’s air defense. They know exactly which target is the primary one, which of them is an attacker and which is a defender. When the main target is destroyed, they re-prioritize and continue with the attack. Now even more advanced missile is on the way.
Russia Threatens to supply Iran with Top New Missile System as 'cold war' escalates

Russia is deploying the threat to sell a "game changing" air defense system to Iran as a high stakes bargaining chip in its new "cold war" with America.

Russia Missile Test Outwitted U.S. Strategic Defenses
http://en.rian.ru/mlitary_news/20090715/155530936…
The United States was unable to detect the presence of Russian strategic submarines in the Arctic before they test-launched two ballistic missiles, a Russian intelligence source said on Wednesday.
Russia carried out test launches of two Sineva intercontinental ballistic missiles from two Delta IV class nuclear-powered submarines, located near the North Pole, on July 13-14.
"The American radars certainly detected the missile launches but their location took them by surprise," the source said.
The first missile, flying a ballistic path, hit its designated target at the Kura testing grounds on the Kamchatka Peninsula, while the second, fired with a flat trajectory, destroyed a target at the Chizha testing site on the White Sea.
Russia Could Destroy Black Sea NATO Ships In 20 Min
http://en.rian.ru/russia/20080829/116377956.html
Russia's Black Sea Fleet is capable of destroying NATO's naval strike group currently deployed in the sea within 20 minutes, a former fleet commander said on Friday. (Russian Navy modernized – Image gallery)
Russia's General Staff said on Tuesday there were 10 NATO ships in the Black Sea – three U.S. warships, the Polish frigate General Pulaski, the German frigate FGS Lubeck, and the Spanish guided missile frigate Admiral Juan de Borbon, as well as four Turkish vessels. Eight more warships are expected to join the group.
"Despite the apparent strength, the NATO naval group in the Black Sea is not battle-worthy," Admiral Eduard Baltin said. "If necessary, a single missile salvo from the Moskva missile cruiser and two or three missile boats would be enough to annihilate the entire group."
"Within 20 minutes the waters would be clear," he said, stressing that despite major reductions, the Black Sea Fleet (Image gallery) still has a formidable missile arsenal.
Actually, RU is hesitant to supply IR because of the latter's complacent attitude to complexities of hitech. Similar to Sadam, who spent billions on the latest weaponry but never bothered to learn how to use it effectively
The belligerent foreign policy of the United States and its boot-licking NATO partners is starting to make Russia feel very uncomfortable. Some advice for the morons who are responsible for this disastrous US and NATO foreign policy: when the bear is sleeping and at peace, the last thing you should ever do is run up to him and poke him in the eye with a stick.
Here we are 20 years after the end of the USSR and we still want to inflict harm on the Russians.
You may actually be missing the grand plan of the mega rich elites and company. Did the elites not have a desire to eliminate 80% of the population? Perhaps enough to risk self extermination. Well, what a plan it would be if Russia, China, and the what's-left-of the U.S. of A to be in an all out bar fight. Shivers!
That the US will deploy missiles in Romania, Poland and on ships in the Black Sea in Bulgaria isn´t mentioned anywhere in the Media, only on these and similar pages. Why is that ? According to Bob Aldridge-http://www.plrc.org-the missiles in Romania, Poland and on ships in Bulgaria are a necessary component of an unanswerable first strike – – to shoot down surviving Russian missiles which are launched in retaliation. The result will be an almost Automatic Launch On Warning and suicide by mistake because of the bloody fools in the Pentagon.
Good for Russia. I'm beginning to think the collapse of the USSR was a bad thing. It kept America in check.
You are spot on ! The USSR kept a lot of the World in check. It is a shambles now.
