In the midst of a book signing for his new children’s book “Can’t Wait Till Christmas!” former government and presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee appeared to lose sight of his Christmas spirit and went off on a tirade demanding the immediate execution of Pfc Bradley Manning, a 23 year old Army intelligence analyst.
Manning is facing up to 52 years in prison for leaking documents to WikiLeaks, which violates the Uniform Code of Military Justice with regards to his handling of classified materials. Huckabee angrily declared that a prison sentence was “too kind.”
Rather Huckabee says that the leaker “is guilty of treason” and that anything short of execution was unacceptable. So far none of the charges against Manning could even theoretically carry the death penalty.
Later Huckabee condemned the New York Times for publishing the documents because “they know they (were) obtained in a way that is not appropriate.” He quickly transitioned from outraged demands for execution back into jovial joking with interviewers, and advised people to stay away from sugar during the holiday season.
Manning is being held incommunicado by the US military and as such was not available for immediate comment on the call for his death.
Let me be the first to demand that this neo-con clown and media whore be waterboarded for putting the interests of some miserable foreign land ahead of the interests of America.

I can't support the death penalty, but 52 years for betraying the trust placed in you by your country,
and violation of the oath you swore, demonstrates such a lack of any semblance of honor that' 52
years seems a light sentence. This guy never needs to see the light of day again. He has, with
luck, spent his last day as a human being, and his future will be just a creature being treated
humanely but kept carefully caged.
I would agree, if our government were decent. But since it has declared war on Americans, I have no problem with people releasing information that gives Americans a better sense of what their government is really like.

Bradley Manning swore an oath to defend the Constitution above and before obedience to any civil or military authority. Revealing the crimes committed by his superiors, peers and civilian leaders is exactly in keeping with that oath. He should be given a medal, the respect of every American patriot, and the pleasure of watching toads like you cast into a deep, dark hole.

So when a person (Hukabee) are all worked up who do you destroy? You get mad and try to destroy your own because its who you can get your hands on. Israel bombs and assassinates and fears Iran having a nuclear weapon because its what it did. It has the nuclear monopoly in that area, so its always on the offensive. A neutral free democratic America are not allowed to get in the way of the plotting and the power, who do it in our name. Okay, rhetoric aside, I am speaking from a position of admiration for Mannings actions- very courageous he was in opening the door for John Q Public to see what his government is doing.
Now, at the very least Manning is guilty on a number of charges, the most likely of the higher charges to be that of espionage. Treason might be a harder one to prove, as his actions were not done on behalf of of a foreign government nor were they intended to overthrow the US. The world 'aftereffects' are not so much the issue in his case, as he is not the one who went public with them- that is Assange's ball of wax. No, Manning will be hard pressed to defend himself for the theft of classified documents, regardless of his motive. Even if he did a great service to the American public (although most don't have a clue just how great a service) he is still on the hook for several serious offenses and I can pretty much guarantee you he will not see another sunrise as a free man, ever.
I say bully for you, Manning- for whatever reason you outed the government, it took a lot of guts to pull off your operation, and for that those who applaud transparency and honesty in government owe you a great debt of gratitude. However, as you well know, the law is the law and whatever the government can charge you with and make stick they will do so in spades- hero or not, it will soon be time to face the music and let the jackals have their day in court against you. Think Braveheart and you'll get the idea of how this looks to a great many of us.
