IAEA Chief Rafael Grossi has issued a statement confirming an agreement with Iran to continue monitoring and verification of their nuclear program under a level of reduced access beginning on Tuesday.
Starting Tuesday, and for the next three months, the deal provides reduced access, and no more snap inspections. Grossi referred to this as a “good, reasonable result” of the negotiations.
Iran’s parliament mandated a move in February to reduce inspections, and end snap access. This was meant originally to protest the assassination of their top nuclear scientist. Some early reports overstated this, claiming Iran would expel the IAEA outright, which of course wasn’t going to happen.
The Rouhani government has been careful to tread a middle ground where parliament is satisfied by these measures but the IAEA continues to affirm their broad compliance. In this case that required some negotiations, but in the end, everyone was satisfied.
It appears to me that in the “negotiations” the IAEA merely accepted Iran intentions. Iran has a plan and is sticking to it.
The Iran parliament disagreed with me.

Iran lawmakers call for president’s prosecution over IAEA deal
the law–
Article 6 – Two months after the enactment of this law in the Parliament, the government of the Islamic Republic of Iran will be obliged to stop allowing inspections beyond the Safeguards Agreement, including the voluntary implementation of the Additional Protocol if the other signatories to the JCPOA – including the P4+1 group of countries (Germany, France, the UK, China, and Russia) – fail to fully deliver on their commitments toward Iran and banking relations are not normalized and obstacles to exports and Iran’s sale of oil products are not fully removed and forex proceeds from sales are not immediately and fully returned to the country
And then the Leader said work it out…
Ayatollah Khamenei said, “Majlis passed a law and the administration welcomed it. All measures that should have been taken up to yesterday were taken and, God willing, another part of that law will enter into force tomorrow.”
Referring to an existing contention between the Iranian administration and Parliament with regard to the implementation of the aforesaid law, the Leader said, “Such misunderstandings can be resolved and the two sides must endeavor to settle this issue through cooperation. Differences should not be left on their own or be intensified so as to show division [in the country].” . .here
Three months suspension of voluntary additional inspection protocols… After 3 months if US would join the deal and remove all the sanctions, the suspension will be lifted…! If not, Iran will further sway away from the deal and possibly expels some inspectors…! Iran is not in a hurry to make US join the JCPOA, and the US maximum pressure has obviously failed…! So they can sustain the status quote…! Iran just showing diplomatic gesture a little while beyond Trump era for the new administration to give US one more chance…!
Not so fast. The parliament has reject the latest agreement with the IAEA on partial suspension of the snap inspections. Khamenei has demanded that the law passed by the parliament to be fully implemented, tomorrow- the date originally set by the parliament.
Iran strategy is the right course of action.
We need countries to stand up to US’s & EU’s bullying!
We in the West must learn that our military power & force should not be used as a normal diplomatic course of action to enforce our will on smaller countries- as occur regularly because of our unmatched fire power!
