In a vote which had been widely anticipated, the Senate today approved additional sanctions against companies that provide gasoline to Iran, as well as against some companies that provide communications technology to the nation.
The sanctions are seen as doing particular harm to Swiss company Vitol, as well as France’s Total S.A. and Britain’s BP. Major cellphone company Nokia could also be affected if the communications clause is included in the compromise bill with the House.
The vote was a companion bill to a House of Representatives bill which passed 412-12 in mid-December. The Senate vote was a voice vote, meaning individual Senators did not have to record their vote publicly.
The American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) praised the vote and called for even more sanctions against Iran. The group expressed hope that the compromise bill would be passed and signed into law soon.
all Senators with Israeli Roots should not be allowed to vote on anything benefiting the Star of David. uups, there would be hardly anybody left to cast a vote. naturally, Israel was delighted by this outcome.
More proof that Pat Buchanan hit it out of the park when he wrote that the United States Congress is Israel occupied territory.
War with Iran will mean the closure of the Strait of Hormuz and the West will be back to the depression in 1932, more or less. And there´s NO EVIDENCE that Iran is pursuing nuclear weapons. Iran has done nothing illegal so the existing UN sanctions are illegal.
America can't touch Iran. Israel might be stupid enough to try it, and I'm sure they'd regret that in a big way…
spineless vermin—vioce recorded vote. New movie coming out–called the Most World's Dangerous Man ( should be called Men)–Check out the clips on BrassCheck site .
How is it that the public are ignored while the politicians take orders from their sponsers :^/
We must keep the Shia majority down, if that poor decent, honorable majority is allowed full spectrum human rights, it would sweep across the whole middle east, no more loan sharking, no more resource theft, no more obscene weapons sales, business as usual would end, puppet governments would collapse and western parasites would have to learn to make a living by their own work and sweat and Palestine might actually reappear on the map
Is this obamas way of unclenching his fist?
Why are we so afraid of Iran? How about leave them be
Unclinching? When in Norouz Obama sent a massage to Iranians, I wondered why they didn’t respond favorably. Then I read the message again, this time carefully.. I paused when I read something like …you can’t achieve legitimacy by … “terror and arms”.
By “terror” did he mean supporting Hezbolllah and Palestinians? Philip Giraldi believes they are groups resisting the occupation. What about “arms”? Defensive arms? No, he must have meant the “nuclear arms”.
If so, he dismissed NIE and IAEA and accepted the false propaganda lines of the neo-cons…..that I found very interesting,
No wonder the Iranians didn’t show any sign of delight after receiving his massage.
The senate is AIPAC's bitch. Nothing more.
