With the Trump Administration continuing to push to extend the Iran arms embargo, which expires in October, 90% of Houses members have sent a letter backing the idea, and urging the administration to seek the extension diplomatically at the UN, courting all “allies and like-minded partners.”
It’s not clear how much diplomatic interest there is in an extension, but it looks to be a non-starter at the UN, as Russian officials again pointed out they oppose any extension. Russia is believed to be planning to sell defensive arms to Iran once the expiration is in effect.
Despite US talk of the extension in recent weeks, Russia says they communicated their position to the US awhile ago, and a Russian veto would preclude any resolution to extend the embargo. The US hasn’t offered any particular strategy to change Russia’s mind.
The State Department seems to believe this might fail at any rate, but insisted earlier this week that the US would try to unilaterally enforce the embargo, even if it expires, after October.
Now we got NO friends. Russia will block any US efforts with a veto and it is very unlikely that our so called allies will step up to the plate – except of course “our Lord and Master” – The State Of Israel.

Think their 2nd loyalty is to Israel, first loyalty is to themselves. They probably don’t mind if something they do benefits US, but it’s not really in their list of priorities

There was no strategy that could change Russia’s mind and I’m sure we knew that. But by pushing for an extension of the embargo and knowing Russia would veto makes for some good Russia bashing. And given that 90% of the Israel firsters in the house back Trump makes it even more of a win for the peace president.
The Israel Firsters in the House (the vast majority of Dems/Repubs) have backed every US President when it comes to their favorite foreign country. Just pathetic how one country runs our foreign policy in the Middle East.
I agree completely. I didn’t mean to imply that it was only Trump. I’m sure 90% would say they backed Trump on withdrawing/violating the JCPOA if they were allowed to with no repercussions. Hating Iran on Israel’s behalf is as bipartisan as it gets.
