Following drone attacks in the capital city of Beirut, Israeli warplanes
carried out an airstrike against a Palestinian base in northern
Lebanon’s Bekaa Valley. The base belongs to the Popular Front for the
Liberation of Palestine General Command (PFLP-GC).
Locals in Bekaa Valley reported explosions in the area around the base early Monday morning, though PFLP-GC downplayed the matter, saying that the attack failed to hit its target.
The PFLP-GC has been active for decades, but has been more publicly
active since the Syrian Civil War. Like most Palestinian groups it is a
sometimes target of Israel, though its presence is almost exclusively in
Lebanon and Syria.
The lack of Israeli comments on the attacks in Lebanon may reflect the
lack of them killing anyone noteworthy, though Hezbollah was
threatening retaliation over Sunday’s attack, and Lebanese officials are
complaining about the Israeli violation of their airspace.
An organization with no ties to Israel or Palestinian issue inside occupied zone. But it committed big crime by helping Palestinians in Syria after ISIS took over their refugee camp. Palestinians formed militia fighting ISIS and other pre-ISIS assorted Takfiriss, Salafis and garden variety of Islamic cults. Since Israel publicly acjnowledged the funding and arming thise Islamists — as well as transporting wounded to treatments in Israel, And in spite of the openness and hospital costs being public — there are still Israel supporters who will try to explain away Israel’s motives. So now we have revenge — Palestinians mobilizing Palestinians to free them from Islamists and ISIS -/ is a bad thing in Israel’s book. Netanyahu famously opened his bug mouth and said that he would not mind seeing ISIS black flag over Damascus.
Of course, that was the idea. Let the mercenary force called ISIS and their deluded followers take as much as possible. Then, US and Israel on a mercy mission would just have to come to liberate Syria. As God promised.
But not to despair—. US says that there is ISIS in Syria and mission continues,
Israel needs to foment an incident with Hezbollah in order to “justify” a new war against Hezbollah in which it can get the US to assist Israel. Then that war can be extended into Syria and perhaps into Iran proper as well.
I’ve been saying this for the last couple years and clearly with elections coming up in Israel and the US, both Netanyahu and the neocons are desperate to get this war started.
I would expect the war to be started before the 2020 elections in the US, but it’s possible they might wait until after to see whether Trump or someone else wins. But they have their best chance of getting this war started with Trump, so I would assume they want to start it before the elections.
In any event, these strikes will continue and escalate until Netanyahu gets his war with Hezbollah. But he needs Hezbollah to retaliate so that he and Trump can avoid being *blamed* for starting a major new Mid-East war. As long as Trump can claim he is “supporting Israel against Iranian terror” and believe that this will help him in the election, despite his “no more wars” campaign promises, he can be convinced to start a war.
