Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah has promised to retaliate on Sunday after Israeli drones carried out a series of attacks in the Lebanese capital of Beirut. The drones crashed and exploded in a southern suburb of Beirut.
Nasrallah referred to the strikes as a “suicide drone attack,” and that he would not allow the strike to pass, adding that Israeli troops at the border should “be ready and wait for us.”
Israel has so far not commented on the attack, which came just hours after an overnight attack on Syria. Hezbollah officials have said they believe the drones were meant for “certain targets,” without specifying who.
Lebanese government officials were also deeply critical, saying the Israeli attack violated Lebanese sovereignty. That is true, but unlikely to matter, as US officials generally support Israeli attacks.
Seems Netanyahoo is desperately trying to get something going before the election.
He may get more than he bargained for. Lets hope so…
Nasrallah is no fool. He knows that these attacks are provocations intended to get Hezbollah to strike back and thus justify a new Israeli large-scale attack on Lebanon, to help Netanyahu in the Israeli elections..
Whether he knows the new war will be with US joint involvement with Israel is not clear to me.
But in any event, Hezbollah is known for holding back and waiting for a moment to strike, so I wouldn’t expect an immediate response from them.
The problem is that *any* response from them will probably be used to “justify” a joint US-Israel attack. I hope Nasrallah knows this and will not underestimate the US ability to damage Hezbollah seriously.
