With a number of US lawmakers taking to social media to criticize the
Chinese government for police crackdowns on protesters in Hong Kong, the
Chinese Foreign Ministry has issued a statement insisting that the US
stay out of its internal affairs, noting that Hong Kong “is not a matter that needs your worrying.“
Underpinning all of this is that Hong Kong’s protesters are waving US
flags and singing the US national anthem, only adding to the sense among
Chinese officials that this is yet another US-funded protest.
President Trump is taking a very hands off approach, claiming on Twitter that China is “moving troops” toward Hong Kong, but stopping short of any direct US statements on the matter.
Critics were quick to slam President Trump
for not being more involved, with some accusing him of not being
sufficiently on the side of the protesters and others accusing him of
giving the green light for the Chinese government to crack down on them.
What, China is only thinking the US is involved because a few US flags are being waved? I would at least include massive support in western press , NYT leading. And contacts between protesters and US officials.
Oh the horror that America ally with a relatively free City run by an insane authoritarian regime
Description of Richmond VA in 1861
Just exactly the opposite of America a relatively free sane country with a bunch of insane totalitarian cities .
I’m sure the MSM’s encouraging the protests in Hong Kong, with the New York Slimes leading the way – not to mention the contacts between the protesters and Bonkers Bolton.
Direct contacts with Bolton? I doubt that. But I object to Jason Ditz showing mainstream-like restraint over US involvement. In the meantime Moonofa has an article out on US involvement in Hongkong.
The main place where I would generally advocate more caution is in describing the balance between foreign involvement and a legitimate local base for protests. It’s there that people switch from one extreme description to the other and skip the mixed cases where legitimate grieves meet foreign assistance.
Trump does not always automatically leap to do what the hawks want. True, in the end he usually gives them most of what they want.
However, Hillary would have jumped for them, and cheered them into more and more. That was our other option.
Now what option will be have, other than Trump? Another one just like Hillary, leaping for wars — i.e. Biden. That is who is wanted by those who say Trump is just too awful to bear, so don’t look, just hand over power to whomever and friends.
Isn’t it refreshing?
I think those who loathe Trump have a mixture of candidates who they would prefer and are not limited to just Biden.
I hope so. I note however that as with Hillary, the establishment is trying to put its thumb on the scales for Biden, and their is active sabotage of those I’d prefer including Sanders, Warren, and Tulsi Gabbard.
I’d prefer the entire list before Biden. You are absolutely correct about the establishment backing his tired ass(like Clinton). Hard to believe it’s going to happen again.
Awful to believe. Whether that makes it “hard” is a question about my own cynicism. I’m not quite sure of that answer, but inclined to the cynical.
Again, you are correct. It isn’t really hard to believe at all.
I think they hate Gabbard about as much as Trump ?
I would consider Tulsi Gabbard and maybe Andrew Yang other wise I’ll have to stick with Trump and hope he does better .
Naturally everyone would think the USA is involved . They were very much involved in Yugoslavia , Afghanistan ,Iraq , Egypt , Libya , Ukraine , Syria and Venezuela . You would have a hard time finding a conflict that the United States did not start . Trump promised to not do this and to his credit he has not attack a single new country . A few people might even believe Trump is totally innocent and he might be ? But he has not deviated enough from the same foreign policy Clinton , the Bushes and Obama had for anybody to trust him . And that includes the U.S. voters .
Irony. This is the same US which crushed its own protest movement “Occupy” by making it known rooftop snipers were ready to murder its leaders, while its ally Saudi Arabia publicly executes them.
