Growing US military buildups throughout April and May in the Middle East
were a reaction, according to officials, to Iran’s military being at a
high level of readiness. Now, with all those extra US forces in the
area, Iran remains at a high level of readiness.
This is something of a challenge for the US to parse, now, as it makes
sense for Iran to be at a high level of readiness after months of
escalation and US threats, and officials are trying to figure out if this is just the new normal.
Gen. Frank McKenzie, the top US commander in the region, is continuing to hype up Iran as an “imminent threat.” Gen. McKenzie played up this threat on Thursday, and used virtually identical comments on Saturday, claiming Iran’s threat has “evolved in certain ways.”
Rear Admiral John Wade, the commander of the USS Lincoln’s carrier
strike group, on the other hand, downplayed the situation. Rear Adm.
Wade says that all interactions with Iran have been “safe and
professional,” and Iran has done nothing to impede the strike group’s
maneuverability.
This suggests the Pentagon is at least somewhat split on the matter, and
the rear admiral is talking up a situation of relative normalcy, even
as Gen. McKenzie, likely aware that regional military funding hinges on
there being a “threat,” continues to see a threat evolved, but otherwise
intact.
One suspects that the Admiral knows that HE personally is on the receiving end of Missile barrages for his ships, as well as Aircraft if the proverbial hits the fan.
I’m sure the Admiral’s quite aware that he’s personally on the receiving end f missile barrages for his ships, as well as aircraft if the proverbial hits the fan.
The General who keeps claiming imminent threat from Iran sorely needs to keep his big mouth shut. There’s NO imminent threat from Iran, since Iran hasn’t attacked its neighbors in nearly 500 years and is a peaceful country.
However, the Islamic Republic is quite capable of defending itself from any attacks from either the US or Israel, or both, even though it has NO nukes and has NO intentions of developing/producing them. It’s conventional weapons can inflict great destruction on the US Fleet in the Mediterranean as well as on Israel itself .. Thus, there’s no need to develop/produce nukes.
Another fact the General doesn’t take into consideration is that Iran has two very powerful allies – China and Russia; so, he’d better zip his lip or suffer the consequences of his own making.
How dare Iran act like it’s prepared to defend itself? Iran’s crime is not any threat of attacking its neighbors or the US- Iran’s crime is that it has stood up to the US, with the world watching, and has not knuckled under to our threats and saber-rattling. In short, Iran has embarrassed the US and we simply can’t have that.
When was the last time you heard of a US general taking part in an actual battle, getting wounded or even nearly wounded in combat. During the Vietnam war these generals were part of the REMF. Look it up.
Yeah. We’ve heard the “imminent threat cr∆p” before. It didn’t end well for anyone except for the MIC and the political class. Those lined their pockets at the expense of….almost everyone else.
