The US State Department has “noted” that the Venezuelan talks being held
in Norway are ongoing, but has refused to either support or denounce
them, insisting only that they must carry the precondition that Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro will be removed from office.
The US backed the opposition taking power in Venezuela back in January,
and after that and a failed coup earlier this month, Norway has gotten
the government and opposition together for talks to try to resolve
months of stalemate.
Though the US-backed opposition has insisted that the talks are meant to
end with regime change, though the State Department insists there is
nothing to negotiate, and that regime change is the only acceptable
outcome.
US officials have previously warned that they believe the Norway talks
are just Maduro’s attempt to buy time and remain in power. Norway has
argued that it is intended to prevent any more fighting and resolve the
situation peacefully.
And who will do that? Opposition that could muster protests in their stronghold neighboroods any more? Or the mercenary force now being assembled in Colombia.
We have plenty of money, no problem.
I doubt that we have plenty of money because why is Trump cutting and cutting and cutting?
What is it that you think Trump is “cutting?” He occasionally mouths about cuts that then don’t happen, while colluding with Congress to spend more money than ever before.
I have concluded that we must have a LOTS iof money. First, I do not see Trump cutting much — if anything, but adding and adding. His profit from tariffs would be at the expense of consumers, and thus bring about some inflation.
But back to money.
We, the people do not complain about money.
We, the people do not even try to keep track of money spent on imperial ventures.
We never make it an issue in campaigns — wars and meddling cost
So — every day there are more contracts issued for such things. My favorite — contrct for 17,000,000 fir NGOs for Syria to create lical government in two areas: the ine controlled by US and its muppets, SDF, and another — in Al-Qaeda run Idlib! They are also to counter Iranian propaganda!
We should have a list if all countries — from A to Z, and money spent in each. Money for military, NGO, influence peddling in media, politcall parties, courts, police, paramilitaries, “freedom fighters”, humanitarians, etc. Then loans and grants. Add to that cost of our bureaucracy that processes purchase orders, contracting, shipping, clandestine ooerations. Down to paperclips.
We talk of wars as an abstraction. And meddling in ither countries as if there is no cost attached. We pay and pay and pay. Where is the benefit?
And all talks with the US should center out the ouster of Trump.
Maduro is going nowhere. Send your girl soldiers to die, USA.
“Must”? Donald, don’t you know that you have already lost that game?
The Empire obviously didn’t learn a thing from Syria.
What a perfect example of the American definition of ‘diplomacy’: when negotiations occur between two parties neither of whom is the US government, their purpose and precondition must be to negotiate the best way to implement US demands.
I thought it was all about the welfare of the Venezuelan people, and not regime change. On the other hand, it was the Venezuelan people who elected Maduro as President (NOT GUAIDO) and what does that say if we ignore their choice and install our own sock puppet?
Washington has had its knickers in a twist since 2016 over some alleged and almost imperceptible Russian interference in its politics yet cheerfully interferes in the most egregious way in Venezuelas politics. If we actually had media speaking truth to power (as opposed to speaking for it) this outrageous hypocrisy would have been called out ages ago.
