On Wednesday, US officials confirmed talks are ongoing with the Polish government over requests for larger,
permanent deployments of US ground troops in Poland. Nominally, these
troops are part of a long-term deployment aimed at Russia.
Poland wants a permanent US base above and beyond the US troops already
deployed in the country. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo says that no
decisions have been made, and that the US is still “taking a look at”
the proposal.
Pompeo suggested that there would be more troops, saying that the goal
is to make sure the US has the “right number of troops and the right mix
of folks” in the country. Polish officials say they want a large number
more troops, saying it passes the “hundreds” mark.
Pompeo said the US takes the request seriously “as we enter the fifth
year of Vladimir Putin’s war on Ukraine – a war he launched of European
soil.” Ukraine predicted Russia was about to invade all of Europe, an
invasion which never ultimately happened, but which has continued to
serve as a pretext for US and NATO military buildups across the region.
Yeah, let’s guarantee Poland’s borders. Great idea now, just like in 1939.
Actually in case you’re interested, Britain didn’t guarantee Poland’s borders in 1938. They tried talking to Germany about some border adjustments (Germany was not interested). What Britain DID guarantee was Poland’s independence.
Don’t worry, Justin “got Trump right” and that’s end of discussion.
Yes, his article today was enlightening. Did you know Iran hangs gays? And they have a lobby? Plus when the Donald proposed talks, the mullahs turned him down? I can see why he doesn’t allow any comments after that drivel.
Well, they do hang gays, and they do have a lobby when they’re allowed to (their lobbyists tend to get harassed, arrested, etc., but they try).
It’s hard to blame the mullahs for turning down “talks” with a US regime that, right before proposing said “talks” had reneged on the most recent agreement resulting from “talks” with the previous US regime, though. US policy on “agreements” with Iran is: Whatever we get, we take. Whatever we give, we take back.
And there was that all cap tirade where Trump threatened to annihilate them.
I do know they actually do those things. It seemed Justin was trying to soften up his readers a bit just in case the Donald decides to do something less than peaceful.
Perhaps. Personally, I’m trying to take it as more of an instance of the point that others (Box of Vapor and myself, for example) have tried to make vis a vis many world issues:
Opposing the invasion of Iraq is not the same thing as supporting Saddam.
Opposing US military adventurism in Afghanistan, Libya, or Syria is not the same thing as supporting the Taliban, Gaddafi, or Assad.
Opposing US meddling in Venezuela is not the same thing as supporting Maduro.
So Justin opposing the oppressive government of Iran is not the same as supporting what?
Maybe not the same as worrying that pence is a heartbeat away from US presidency. But, sure, make sure you point out how nasty the mullahs are JR.
Justin opposing the oppressive government of Iran is not the same as supporting US regime change schemes for Iran.
That is a given and I wasn’t insinuating otherwise. But his article was about why he was right about Trump. He said he was worried about influence from Israel in swaying Trump to go to war with Iran. He then pointed out the failings of Iran’s oppressive regime which, to me, should be irrelevant. If the article hadn’t been about why he was right about Trump those comments he made might have taken on a different meaning to me.
OK, I can see that.
This must be another attempt by us to get along with Russia.
Pompeo said the US takes the request seriously “as we enter the fifth
year of Vladimir Putin’s war on Ukraine – a war he launched of European
soil.”
There is no war on Ukraine- there is a fake state caused by the overthrow BY THE USA of the Ukrainian government in 2014, when Russia took back Crimea, its longtime port, after a referendum of the population of the territory.
For four years, from 2010,Russia had worked with the pro-western Ukraine government, but as soon as a pro-Russian team was elected, the USA jumped in to take over, with great violence. Pretending Ukraine is correct and deserves support is the usual US interfering excuse.
Amerikan troops can go to the soon to be finished Fort Trumpster were there is Trumpster tower and golf course. The troops of course will live barracks moved from Iraq and slowly freeze to death guarding the golf course from the Russians who are laughing themselves silly.
