US government determination to show how pro-rebel they were during the
Syrian War by shipping large amounts of anti-tank missiles to various
rebel groups could come back to haunt them. That’s because while many of
these groups are defeated, few of the weapons are accounted for, and a
lot are known to have ended up in the hands of other militant factions.
While problems keeping track of US arms were identified almost
immediately,, they were never really corrected. At this point, US
anti-tank missiles are now part of the arsenal of militant groups across
the Middle East. With the US remaining heavily engaged in the area, it seems only a matter of time before those US missiles are turned against US troops.
From the first CIA efforts to smuggle weapons into Syria for the rebels,
those weapons have rarely found their intended target, and many times
ended up in the hands of al-Qaeda or ISIS. This was true of early small
arms and ammunition, and just as true of later shipments of missiles and
other arms.
Such groups have historically had to rely on smuggling decades-old
Soviet-era surplus out of places like Libya, but now such groups have
ready access to modern, US-made arms. How they will choose to use them
remains to be seen, but the track record suggests it won’t be good for
the US.
While I’m really angry how the U.S. has worked so hard to dislodge the Syrian leadership to please our No.1 Welfare Queen, or some otherI still can’t help but be sad to see the the weapons we sent to overthrow the governments we don’t like being used against our American troops…..who really have no dog in the fight. It’s all being done for those who finagled us into these wars to steAL land resources. And it NOT in America’s best interests. In fact these wars like Syria & Libya are against the larger interests of America & the American people. These wars are oil wars…. and land grab wars. No American young people should be dying for these desert wastelands. Trump is right that these wars detract from putting our American interests paramount!
It seems that as long as the USA spends huge amounts of money on military might (not DEFENSE at all, as Chalmers Johnson pointed out when 9/11 required a new Department, Homeland Security, as no defense had stopped the “unexpected terror attack”) it does not care what happens to the goodies, which can then be replaced with better ones.
It has been claimed that hundreds of SAMs or stinger missiles were missing, and there was a ‘buy back’ program going on in Benghazi. That is prolly why Chris Stevens and the cia were there in the first place . . . .
