Continuing a trend of attack and counter-attack that has been raging for months, ISIS has launched a new push against the village of Abu Khaser in southeastern Syria, The village is near the town of Hajin, which is still being contested.
Early indications are that despite the US carrying out airstrikes to try
to back Kurdish forces, a few dozen ISIS fighters managed to overrun
the village, at least for the time being. There were no reports on
casualties.
Fighting is ongoing in the area, but Kurdish officials seemed to be keen
to report the incident, and the loss of the insignificant village,
because of the recent US announcement of a pullout from Syria, and the
general Kurdish opposition to that.
This is not unusual, however, as Kurdish forces have repeatedly taken
those “last three ISIS towns” from ISIS, only to lose them back to ISIS
counter-attacks. Those fights also include nearby villages, as with the
one contested today.
