With war fatigue finally setting in a generation into the US occupation of Afghanistan, there is talk of negotiating a peace deal, or withdrawing. Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Gen. Joe Dunford opposes this idea.
Gen. Dunford argued that the US has to staying Afghanistan “to contain terrorists,” otherwise there would be another 9/11. He pointed to the last 17 years of occupation as having disrupted such plots.
Dunford’s position seems to set out permanent war as a reality for Afghanistan, with no real end game even being sought. With the war being lost at an alarming rate, it’s not clear how long this could drag on.
Yet Dunford dismissed concerns about how bad the situation in Afghanistan is, saying that his priority isn’t security and stability in Afghanistan, but to protect “the American people, the homeland, and our allies.”
Wow, gotta love Gen DumbFord. Has he done ANY research on the aformentioned attack…?????? Even if ones mind if corrupted by the official narative, it was never claimed the idea was dreamed up in Afghanistan. These guys hung in Hamburg. Learned to fly in Napoles Florida. And their backgrounds were mostly Saudi. There was no real Afghan connection, except when Atta got deported from Sudan, or some other African backwater. Lies, and more lies. It”s the oil & gas in the Caspean that has America there..
Damn – When the malarkey comes from a four star general and a Chief of Staff, at that – what does that say about the whole bloody organization? It can’t be Dunford’s self interest talking – he isn’t going to get another star if we stay, and I doubt that any Shell Oil executive is slipping him any cash-stuffed envelopes.. Richard, what appears to be self-interest, and yet doesn’t make sense, is in fact a form of “distorted sanity”. These people have been immersed in their sea of misinformation/propaganda/psyops so long that they have come to believe their own lies… ***no matter how profoundly contradictory to the reality staring them in the face.*** And this is compounded by the years-long habit of pumping out the propaganda as the psychological/homeland morale/strategic justification part of the war effort. Maintenance of “the narrative”, loyalty to the tribe, and eventual internalization of/”capture” by their own bullsh*t results in this strange form of self-inflicted insanity.
Not very different, in the end, to any sort of tribal ideological indoctrination.
I wonder if anyone in the Pentagon-or even real, sentient Americans- have read Andrei Martyanov’s book “Losing Military Supremacy”. It is devastating in its explanations of why spending huge amounts of money on “defense” may not help at all in “defending” a country with no sensible strategies for forming an intelligent, informed population.

9/11 had nothing to do with Afghanistan but with Wars for Israel – Iraq, Syria, Libya, Yemen and Iran (which they haven’t been able to do yet).
(1) Israel and Jewish money and (2) the Sunni-Shia divide is behind all the conflict in the Mideast.
The top tier — ie political class and moneyed class — of any nation state or ethnic or religious group is the problem. Charismatic, ambition-driven, power-hungry, compassion-challenged, borderline(?) psychopaths always rise to the top. Big problem for humanity.
And sadly, it seems that humans actually ***like*** conflict.

Most of the 9/11 terrorists were Saudis as was bin laden.. General Dumbass is trying to spin a tale to keep the eternal war in Afganistan going. Just another war criminal wasting billions a year on nothing.
Don’t bomb, embargo, etc. Iraq and no 9-11 in the first place. Learn from errors, don’t repeat them.

I say let’s keep Gen. Dunford in Kabul or elsewhere in our unofficial 51st “state” until Peace is achieved. The good general needs to be near the battle himself to fully appreciate the strategic situation there. So bon voyage good general. Keep us posted on the progress you’re making. I predict that this plan will produce a drastic upswing of good news, such that our occupation of Kabul and a few other places can swiftly end. The our victorious general can have his parade and US taxpayers will find immediate relief.

Bring all our troops home from everywhere else in the world. End all aid to every other nation. Close our borders. Start deportations of all non citizens and immigrants who have come here since 1965. Problem solved.

The Taliban-base of Osama was used to prepare terrorist activities and overthrow of governments in the Middle East but not here.
The Taliban was not interested in activities outside Afghanistan. It needed funding which was provided by Osama who was in essence their paymaster. In return the Taliban provided Osama with useful training grounds for his fighters.
Even today the Taliban does not seem to be interested in any terrorist activities outside Afghanistan.
Dunford is afflicted with Afghanisatanite (the extra a after the s is deliberate!).

Actually,all this poor Americans interested cheaper oil. It’s pity Muslin world can not managed oil production because obvious reason of SHIA – SUNNI divide. Then again, Muslim world’s cooperation among themselves would be biggest threat to west and would be another Ottoman Empire, part 2

How about stay in Afghanistan AND get another 9/11? You don’t jerk people around for nearly two decades and not expect them to do anything about it.
The best thing is for the USA to pull out and then wipe out Afghanistan in a full-blown scorched earth op raised to 11. The ideal would be a covert asteroid diversion that would take out both Afghanistan and Iran when it hit.
