One of several agreements between the two Koreas designed to reduce military tensions, North and South Korea have agreed to establish a no-fly zone along their mutual border. This is intended to prevent misunderstandings along the frontier.
As with anything that might be seen as reducing tensions with North Korea, the State Department has come out against the idea, saying the US believes the no-fly zone will undermine military readiness.
The real problem isn’t “readiness,” it’s the Trump Administration’s ability to carry out threatening military maneuvers along the border between North and South Korea. During tense periods, the US has often conducted such overflights with nuclear-capable warplanes.
As with the US desire to keep stepping up sanctions, they are loathe to lose any of their capability to casually threaten North Korea in the process of diplomatic progress. This means opposing South Korea’s no-fly zone deal.
Peace in Korea will eventually require that the USA be given an eviction notice: Take your troops, planes, ships, etc. and go home. Or, go occupy some other god-forsaken land, whatever.
Which is exactly why the US doesn’t want peace in Korea. It’s nice to have bombers positioned one air-hour away from Beijing and Shanghai, for one thing. Plus it would signify a loss in US world hegemony, and that idea might snowball if other countries get a notion that they don’t need US “military protection.”
National Security Strategy (NSS), December 2017
Four pillars
1. Protect the American people, the homeland, and the American way of life
2. Promote American prosperity
3. Preserve peace through strength
4. Advance American influence
You hit it! And that is also the reason why the “loss” of Crimea to Russia hurts badly because it would have made an excellent NATO airbase against Russia.
And Crimea is the site of Russia’s only warm-water naval port, which is why the US did the coup in Kiev. But Putin outsmarted Washington (not terribly difficult).
F-ck the “four pillars”, Don.
Numbers 3 and 4 do not help American people, only the MIC.
Just the normal belligerent behavior of the USA. President Putin is taking it seriously too, as the USA seems unable to avoid constant threats, exercises with NATO, provision of weapons and “intelligence” to Ukraine, sanctions, killing of Kurds in Syria-anything but minding their own business and actually helping American lives.
some good news
The hostile nature of US bomber overflights is especially hurtful to North Koreans because that country was completely destroyed by US aerial bombing, a war crime that the North has not forgotten.

Peace will ONLY happen without the US. Peace is not profitable for the puppetmasters that own and control the US government.
Retired Admiral Harry Harris, the China-hater from the US Pacific Command, and now the US ambassador to ROK, has sounded off about the disharmony between the US and its (former?) South Korea puppet government.
…from TheKoreaTimes —
Harris has it backwards, of course. Improving relations comes before disarmament according to common sense and also the Panmunjon Joint Declaration.
Can we just replace everyone at the State Dept and DoD please?
As in “drain the swamp?” After 2 years, hasn’t happened. Ain’t gonna happen after 2 more, either.
One wonders what will happen when we’re told to GTFO. It’s coming, just wait.
