This story will continue to be updated as new details emerge
Mere minutes after President Trump announced that he had ordered the US to attack Syria, reports began emerging from Syria’s capital city of Damascus that an air war is starting over the city. Explosions have been reported in Eastern Damascus, and locals describe smoke rising from the area.
Within Syria is reporting that Syrian air defenses have been firing in and around Damascus, and SANA at least 13 US missiles had been intercepted. Reuters reported there were rumors of a US strike hitting a housing center for the Syrian Scientific Studies and Research Center (SSRC) employees. The SSRC has been sanctioned by the US Treasury Department for involvement in chemical weapons, and targeting of a research site was confirmed by the Pentagon. There are unconfirmed reports of civilian casualties in Damascus.
British warplanes bombed a site near the city of Homs, which was presented by officials as having something to do with chemical weapon storage. Despite this, the Pentagon insisted there was no chance of any chemicals being released into the surrounding area by the attacks.
Air defenses are reportedly active in several locations around Syria this evening. Unconfirmed preliminary reports are that some of the missiles were fired from Jordan, and the Syrian coast is thus-far “quiet.” US planes and ships are said to be involved.
Though there were initially unconfirmed reports of Russian air defenses in Syria also being activated, the Pentagon has insisted that was not the case, and that they have no sign of any Russian activity since the attack.
Russia has issued a statement condemning the Western attack, and saying there will be a response. They have not indicated what that will be, however.
And while the Pentagon insisted the US attack is over, the US has also issued a flight advisory, warning civilian aircraft to stay out of Syria, and especially the area around Damascus, because of the ongoing operation.
Lights,Camera,Action!!! Get your popcorn Mr.Ditz…
What! Our little buddy to the south of Syria isn’t helping us!
As the Pentagon press conference developed the questioners did not surprise me. Not a single one asked the obvious question: if the sites where Assad produced chemical weapons were known for quite some time why did our government not:
demand that Putin order his troops and civilians in Syria to go to these sites and destroy the chemicals as they had promised the Obama administration they would do or else:
destroy these sites much earlier to save lives?
These boobs never surprise me. Their questions are derived from their 101 level courses on government and media. Crap in, crap out.
Did they think that “chemical weapons sites” bombed would not release any dangerous matter?
No, because they knew there are no “chemical weapons”.
The totalitarian Democracies: England, France, and Washington DC have once again illegally attacked a sovereign nation without UN authorization let alone authorization from our Congress. Geez, just like what they did to Libya. F-ing Trump the man child corrupt fool that he is.
This may force decision makers to confront something always known about missile attacks — missiles can always swamp the defenses. Some can be shot down, but that really changes nothing.
The only way to defeat a missile attack is to pre-empt it by striking the launchers first. The only meaningful response to the launch is to absorb the damage and hit back.
As we saw in Ukraine and Georgia, after we do the same thing two or three or four times, eventually the Russians get the idea and respond. Their response then “surprises” us, as if they’d always and forever just sit there and take it.
The true facts about this blatantly illegal attack are obscured by the MSM “fog of war” that last night claimed, absurdly, that none of the 103 missiles launched were shot down. That was pure BS, and once the fog clears we will learn the truth.
The only remarkable thing about this first attack is that Putin wasn’t lured into attacking the planes or ships those missiles were launched from, avoiding once again a confrontation that could lead to WWIII. His restraint saved the world from catastrophe.
Update from zerohedge.com: Syrian air defense units claim they intercepted 71 out of 103 missiles.
During the 2016 campaign, we were damned no matter what. One candidate SAID she would do something like this while the other pretended he wouldn’t. That’s some great “democracy” we have here in the USSA.
This is not supposed to be a democracy it is supposed to be a republic, maybe that’s the problem. We have lost and forgotten the main principles of this country so there is no foundation left. Games over!
That’s the story of the U.S politics. Voters vote for the peace candidate and hope he sticks to his promises.
So, here is where it seems to stand… Russia said do not attempt to hit Assad in Damascus or his forces (the ones fighting ISIS by the way…) Russia says this is not what they wanted but there will be repercussions. We will have to see what that means,.. I do not know what else to say. Other than Peace Out?
Trump and the neo-con warmongers of the GOP and DNC have a Saudi Arabia and Israel first agenda.
The US military will quickly wish they could go back to fighting untrained Farmers in Iraq and Afghanistan instead of the Russian Military.
If the attacks are too successful, at killing Russians and Syrians then the US could lose 1,000 Troops today. The USS Cook and all US Bases in Turkey could be destroyed the first day of conflict. The EU could lose all it’s access to natural gas.
Trump has made a fatal error and by next week the World will see Trump’s and Salmans’ military is a Colossus with clay feet. This Saudi false flag operation will bring America death.
The Sailors of the USS Cook could already be on the bottom of the med feeding the fish by now, for all we know.

“This is not a Libertarian website if you restrict free speech Ditz.”
It’s not a libertarian website. It’s an antiwar web site that happens to have a mostly libertarian staff.
There’s nothing non-libertarian about Antiwar.com deciding how its property may be used.
Mr. Ditz doesn’t moderate comments. I do.
The Scientific Research and Learning Center in Syria was bombed. This is a university. Here are pictures of it. Note the girls don’t have to wear veils or alien burkas like in Islamist “rebel” areas supported by Washington:

Thanks. We can see how dangerous it is, so the poor dear democratic marvels USA, UK, France could not wait for confirmation before attacking.
For the moment, we seemed to have dodged a bullet. No one is reported being killed in the US airstrikes. Apparently, 103 missiles launched, 71 missiles were intercepted and shot down. We can take a good breath for the moment.

The deal was to pound sand and nothing more so that Uncle Warbucks can buy more tubes from Raytheon and Lockheed.
It was amazing that no one was killed… I wonder what is next on Trump’s war agenda… best-dv
I am no fan of Alex Jones but this is interesting, he does a meltdown on Trump (there is bad language so be aware) it is the first few minutes of this youtube:
Russia should at least sink one of the USA’s vulnerable aircraft carriers, by mistake.
So this is an utterly immoral, illegal strike, again mostly symbolic, that doesn’t represent the interest of the American people, that doesn’t help Trump politically in any way I can discern. So what is the deal with this nonsense? And how much are the American people paying for this circus and for what purpose exactly?
With an all out-neoconized Trump, hiring that imbecile Bolton, pardoning that scumbag “Scooter,” not firing Nimrata, how exactly is he any better than crooked Hillary?
