The Iraqi Defense Ministry has promised an investigation today after videos emerged of Facebook showing Iraqi soldiers in Mosul killing detainees, saying they were aware of the reports and such incidents wouldn’t be tolerated.
The videos show Iraqi soldiers, in uniform, savagely beating detainees, and accusing them of being ISIS. At one point, the soldiers cast detainees off the wall overlooking the Tigris River, wten shoot at their bodies when they land by the river bed.
A second video from the same Facebook page, touting the “heroes” of Iraq’s Army 16th division, shows Iraqi soldiers, again in uniform, killing an unarmed man kneeling in front of a car. Two other videos are on the page, but those only show savage beatings and no apparent deaths.
Revenge killing has been a consistent fact of Iraqi military offensives “liberating” Sunni cities from ISIS, though the videos show an increase in brazenness, if nothing else, as the troops clearly know they’re being recorded committing war crimes, and are confident that at the end of the day the Iraqi government will look the other way, as they have so often in the past.
Why? Is anybody surprised? Do they have a problem wasting the ammunition when a bayoneting would do? We have decided to support one side in a sectarian conflict. This is what sectarian conflicts look like, not at all pretty
I applaud the Iraqi Army in their hour of victory. They now have the confidence and the experience to defend their own country again, which is what the US tried to do from the beginning (i.e. “Iraqification”) I hope they burn the headchoppers in cages and video it as a warning for all to beware, because I don’t see negotiations or freedom for any of them as an option.
Is there no need to investigate about the suspects? Shouldn’t they be considered prisoners of war?
No, because they are not a recognized entity, and thus have terrorist status. So it’s Guantanamo if they’re lucky, but more likely they’ll perish in shipping containers in the sun.
You’re delusional. Without our help Mosul would still be under ISIS control. And that was our goal from the beginning? Wow, you are really delusional. Burning headchoppers in cages only creates more headchoppers.
Guess it’s all about whose propaganda you read, isn’t it. The Iranians said the US had nothing to do with the “victory” in Mosul.
Iran also predicted that for every freedom fighter your Empire deceitfully slaughters, calling them terrorists, surely a dozen more will come to hunt you down. Surely, your labeling stupidity as wisdom is no way to run for daylight.
So what does one do with a headchopper? Rehabilitate? Negotiate? Good luck with that.
“Without our help Mosul would still be under ISIS control.”
Without “our” help, ISIS would never have existed.
C’mon man. I was responding to jsinton’s post. The Iraqi military is dependent on us is all I meant. We created the entire mess, I know that.
Sure, the US did everything. Look, the CIA is in my soup!
Disgusting. Are these the “values” we in the west claim to uphold? They lower themselves to the same level. You should be ashamed of yourself making such insane remarks.
Point taken, but you will see how insane my remarks are after the immigrant plague has time to settle in Europe and Christendom itself is at peril. I am not ashamed to wish to destroy those who have no regard for anything I think, feel, or want and seek to destroy me. I know, it’s horrible. But we are just grains of sand on a beach that is about to get wiped out by a hurricane, so enjoy yourself, it’s later than you think.
That’s OK. We can see how insane your remarks are already.
Well, you just hunker down, sing Kumbiya, and hope is all goes away. I’ll keep my eyes open.
Probably learned it from our brave lads.
Saudi Arabia and USA hold a joint record for being the most wealthy nations ever, the root cause of it all.
Easy to armchair quarterback when you don’t have any skin in the game, eh? Think again.
