While European nations were up in arms at Secretary of State Rex Tillerson’s visit this week to Moscow virtually since it was announced, presenting it as proof the Trump Administration is too cozy with the Russian Federation, the visit is actually coming amid growing tensions between the two nations, centering on last week’s US attack on Syria.
Tillerson and other top US officials are being very public in demanding that Russia end all support for the Syrian government, warning that they would face worse relations with the United States if they failed to comply. This demand largely echoes those made by the Obama Administration.
Russia doesn’t appear to be seriously considering the demand, however, instead issuing their own public warning to the US that they’d better stop attacking the Syrian government, and that they’d face a military response if they attempted any more strikes.
As a result, Tillerson’s visit is going to be a very tense one, and in all likelihood what was initially going to be a talk on improved diplomatic ties is instead going to be several days of tit-for-tat statements of criticism on each other’s Syria policies.
The reality-distortion field in which the shambolic and perverse US policy is God’s Word And That’s Right and everyone who doesn’t align must be taught a lesson is in full force.
The attack on Syria was not done for nothing on WWI centenary.
What a nightmare. This is the exact opposite of what I wanted from Trump.
*giggle. Let this be a lesson to you sweetie. You can’t trust a serial liar who would rather get his briefing from the National Enquirer than his own intelligence agencies.
I don’t trust his own intelligence agencies either as they obviously have a neocon bias.
Unless you receive all reports from these intelligence agencies you have zero evidence on which you base your wild accusation.
Wild accusation? How naive. The CIA in particular is well known to be neocon. Justin Raimondo was talking about the CIA being a neoconservative front way back in 1993 (a decade before hardly anyone even knew of the term) in “Reclaiming The American Right”.
In that case you know who to leak those reports to when you get them…
It does take the oomph out of the ‘Trump iz Russian pawn agent dog’ accusations, though.
– ‘Demands’? Based on which authority? The US should really end it’s hypocritic policy by acknowledging int’l law. It’s over now.
JJ, you’re 100% correct .. The USA must end its hypocritical policy by acknowledging international law. On which authority does the Trump Administration’s demands on Russia to stop supporting Syria? None whatsoever.
First of all, Trump (on Jared Kushner’s directive) ordered the launching of some 59-60 Tomahawk cruise missiles from two destroyers in the Eastern Mediterranean to strike the Shayrat Airbase located in the eastern countryside of the Governate of Homs and destroy all Syrian jets parked there, along with the hangars and other facilities. Out of those 59, only 23 actually reached the airbase, causing little damage; yet killed 6 people, most of them airbase personnel.
I doubt very much the Donald’s in charge, JJ. In a meeting inside the Situation Room before the missile strike was carried out, Kushner gave Trump, Rex Tillerson and former NCS member and chief strategist Steve Bannon the evil eye, silently telling them he, not Trump, was (and still is) in charge.
This just more bluster from a group of people who made a big mistake and now are trying to cloud the issues in an attempt to distract attention until the illegal attack on Syria is forgotten. Unfortunately for them Russia is not prone to knee jerk reactions and real damage has been done to American interests in the Mideast.
What happened to the real Trump and when did the switch occur? The new look alike is a good copy, but it’s programed just the opposite of the one we all suppoorted. These Hillary people have gone way too far this time…!!!!!!!
“Where’s our Don” “Where’s our Don”………
Assuming that what donnie promised on the campaign trail was sincere (I have my doubts but that’s my opinion), then it’s obvious that the warmongers with whom he has surrounded himself have turned him to the dark side. In case you haven’t noticed, he has forgotten that he said, repeatedly, that he was going to drain the swamp. Instead, he has surrounded himself with those who are invested deeply with the idea of Empire and very eager for an armed conflict with just about everybody – well, at least those who won’t bend the knee to the US Empire.
Could somebody please carry this message to Raimondo and help complete his transformation from the dark side?
Of course Trump demands!
As pointed out many times before, Russia is standing in the way of US success in bringing Syria into the fold. And Syria also stands in the way of the agenda for Iran.
Now it should be much easier for all the people who frequent this site that Trump’s idea of better US/Russian relations was always a total contradiction.
No matter if it was Trump’s ignorance as opposed to him lying, the end result is the same and Raimondo has finally arrived on that understanding.
Personally, I very much favour the idea that Trump simply didn’t understand anything on foreign relations during his campaign speeches.
The news now is that Trump is being educated to understand and he’s completely consistent with US foreign policy as it has stood since the fall of the Soviet Union.
Kind of feel bad for T-Rex. He didn’t want the job. He should compare notes with Colin Powell.
Help us? God’s breaking popcorn with Putin.
That’s because Putin turned Russia from an atheist Bolshevik country into an Orthodox Christian one shortly after he succeeded the drunken, incompetent Boris Yeltsin as President.
Yeltsin only turned Russia into an Oligarchy, before Putin turned it into an Orthodox Christian country. Unlike Putin, Yeltsin was a total stooge of the NWO,
Hopefully the religionists in Russia haven’t tossed or perverted the art of reasoning the way some religionists of the West have.
Atheism is an ill-defined force in the west; it includes Deists, for example. Pewresearch put out a interesting article on atheism, “Ten Facts About Atheists”, June 1,2016.
Interestingly, 32% of American atheists say they turn to science to determine right and wrong while 44% say they rely on experience and common sense. Science is prone to observer bias, but its a step in the right direction of using raw moral reasoning.
In the simplistic language of don’ts needed four the youngest children, that’s don’t lie, don’t steal, don’t cheat, don’t bully, and don’t murder; don’t let it happen to you and don’t let it happen to anyone else.
A lot of atheism and religion is in practice, seeking ways around those postulates as opposed to trying to apply them and make them work in daily life.
That’s figure of speech.
I know the same God they referred when America says ” i am American and thank God for that.
If God exist he can be blaimed for the stupidity creating people like Americans.
So probably eating popcorn or smoking marijuana with Putin would be much more interesting listening Trump.
Ah, the wisdom and humour of deities; we have beer, popcorn, and weed. And American politics…
The world demands the US stop supporting terrorists and bombing peaceful nations.
What nation with any dignity and power listen to a bunch of low lifes from Washington? Especially this dismally stupid administration.
Of course Trump demands!

How about US stops supporting Saudi Arabia and Israel first, who IMO are much worse than any regime in ME?
Exactly.
BINGO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The two most totalitarian countries in the ME .. Saudi Arabia and Israel .. are the ones pressuring the USA into toppling Assad, the democratically elected President of Syria .. And of these two, Israel (under its PM, Bibi Netanyahu) is the worst.
It was Bibi himself that directed the attack on Syria, through Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner.
Does the US really mean that its great success in recent years in destruction of so many countries while vastly increasing the insecurity of people in many parts of the globe give it justification in ordering another nuclear nation to follow its ill-thought-out plans?
Any question as to who is and has always been behind this war from the “gitgo” and what is its real purpose?
Unfortunately it appears that Russian/Iranian statement is a hoax…
Reuters, Others, Report Fake Iran/Russia Statement on Syria — ‘Russia Insider’ Blindly Follows

Apparently there has been no confirmation from either country.
Russia has a Black Sea fleet. With the exception of aircraft carriers every Russian warship and every Russian submarine is allowed to pass through Turkish waters into the Mediterranean and back. At peacetime. What good is that if there is no Mediterranean port where these ships are welcome? Well, there is one. In Syria. Putin knows very well that only an Assad victory in the civil war assures that Russia can keep that base without a fight.
What we have in Syria is now a US-Russian fight over whether Russia can keep that base superimposed on Syria’s civil war. It may be in part a NATO payback for Crimea returning to Russia halfheartedly supported by President Trump.
Halfheartedly because what am I to make of the aggressive speeches of our UN Ambassador vs. the somewhat more moderate utterances of the Secretary of State and Trump himself.
I am really puzzled if not alarmed by this Nikki vs. Tex. Neither has the power to order our armed forces to do anything. Only the President can. The people who speak for him must not be so far apart. Hence the question arises whether president Trump himself has a Syria policy. If that is still to be worked out his spokespersons had better say that.
Yes, Trump has a Syria policy. It’s the US policy that he’s been told he has. Stop playing stupid, the Trump facade is over and it’s now clear that he didn’t mean or ever understand anything he was yammering on about in his campalgn speeches. Raimondo might get around to telling you that again eventually, if he doesn’t go back to the dark side.
Yes, you’re right about Russia needing a base in Syria.
No, it’s not just about a US/Russia fight for that base. The US plan for Syria was put in place pretty well at the same time as the fall of the Soviet Union.
No, it has nothing to do with Nato’s payback for Crimea. Is your head screwed on crooked today?
No, Russia doesn’t have many aircraft carriers because those sort of ships are meant for carrying the war to the enemy in foreign lands and that’s not Russia’s interest.
Thank you Don. You are probably right on NATO.
I mentioned the aircraft carriers in the Black Sea. The big standard carriers are not allowed to pass through the Dardanelles which is why Russia has developed the smaller ships but only for the Black Sea. The planes on these ships are not for attack only. Several are used only for reconnaissance.

Trump criticized former President Barack Obama for even thinking about attacking Syria…and now here he goes and does the same thing.
The question is:
Which Muslim Country in the Middle East Will President Kushner Bomb Next?
