Speaking today on Israel’s Channel 10, Secretary of State John Kerry urged Israel to tone down its hysteria over the possible P5+1 nuclear deal with Iran, saying the US can guarantee to Israel that Iran will never acquire a nuclear weapon.
At the same time, Kerry said he didn’t believe there was a serious risk of a “surprise” Israeli attack on Iran, saying he couldn’t imagine Israel would attack Iran without consulting the US government first.
“I do not believe frankly that Israel… that we’d wake up one morning and find that,” Kerry said when asked about the chances of Israel randomly attacking Iran, saying there would be “huge implications” and that the US would be “deeply involved” in such a war.
Kerry also assured Israel that even with a nuclear deal, they would maintain the option of attacking Iran at any times themselves to “thwart” them, and that they would “never disappoint Israel.”
Big deal. Since Iran isn't interested in a nuclear weapon to begin with how hard is it to assure that they won't get one. Kerry is wasting his time, since the destruction of Iran has become an article of faith for radical israelis and their servants in the US.
Israel certainly won't attack Iran without giving the U.S. advance warning … any more than Israel would attack a U.S. naval ship like the Liberty without any warning.
Yes, severe criminal options will always technically remain on the table, for every human or state actor. To keep stressing that is bordering on the offensive. The reason to not actually display them on any table is to make sure these options won't accidentally be triggered and also remain out of reach of children, jokers or manipulators.
This is why it's better to stress which actions will remain unthinkable in the current context. Like starting a war without explicit, proven hostile action taken by one you will be attacking or without considering all other international laws.
John Kerry is displaying a remarkable lack of imagination.
If Israel attacks Iran, it probably won't be for any justifiable offense by Iran, it will be for some paranoid perception on the part of Israel. What are we going to do then – "stand by our ally, the insane Zionist state of Israel"? I wouldn't doubt it. Too bad, we don't get to vote on this.
"…saying he couldn’t imagine Israel would attack Iran without consulting the US government first."
Friggin' delusional. First, the US cannot and never will be able to "guarantee" anyone will not acquire a nuke. They don't have to build one, they can purchase one as there are sellers. Second, if he really thinks that Israel will get the US's OK to start a war and drag the US into it to protect them, as I said, delusional…and dangerous.
This has to be one of the weirdest if not alarming statements I have ever heard from a Secretary. Attacking Iran to "thwart" them smells like a war crime to me.
Of course Israel won't bomb Iran without consulting the U.S.! The U.S. will be bombing Iran for Israel just like we did with Iraq.
Diaper wearing thugs will not attack Iran period.
Kerry, is he such a nincompoop to believe that Israel will consult US before attacking Iran? No master will seek permission from his salve to do any thing. Israel would have done so if it could long time ago. But in times to come the master will command the slave to do what he wants. In all probability the US itself will have to attack Iran. May be after Obama. Developments are pointing in that direction. Americans should be prepared to expect body bags for the master. Of course slaves are to die for master
Yep. Just like how ISISrael was kind enough to inform the U.S. when it was attacking Assad, whose government is at the forefront of fighting ISIS.
