Top European leaders French President Francois Hollande and German Chancellor Angela Merkel have been making the rounds in Eastern Europe, stopping off in Ukraine and Russia in an effort to settle the ongoing Ukrainian civil war.
The efforts to come up with a deal to end the war aren’t sitting well with the US, which is considering arming the Ukrainian military to crush the rebels, and is continuing to talk up the crackdown as “self-defense.”
The Obama Administration has made it clear they oppose any concessions to the eastern rebels, while France is pushing for the creation of a demilitarized zone and a pledge of more eastern autonomy.
Ukraine had a ceasefire in early September, which collapsed late last month. Both sides have blamed the other, but it is only now, with the resumed war going poorly, that Ukrainian officials are once again expressing support for the ceasefire.
The last ceasefire was supposed to lead to reforms that would give easterners a measure of autonomy, and guarantee rights for Ukraine’s ethnic Russian minority. The Poroshenko government didn’t follow through on that, however, and the US has expressed support for that.
Russia is about self-defense — Western aggression is a war of plunder and all out aggression
Surely, for Russia will make sure that the new East Ukraine Republic has just enough of a military that it will never lose it’s war, it’s independence or it’s sovereignty.
"Biden says Ukrainians 'have a right to defend themselves,'"
Why is Biden using Israeli talking points?
Because these lies flow out of the same "mother-well" of inequity – Zionism.
It has become so bizarre to watch and listen to our MSM become just plain liars. Anyone with at least a room temperature number IQ, has to know that we engineered the coup in Ukraine and now that parts of that benighted country want no more to do with the lies. And yet, their move to independence is somehow "Russian aggression".
Likewise, when the "manufactured" ISIL, kills some captives, it becomes the worst evil; and no-one dares question the slaughter in Gaza where thousands were slaughtered , and burned alive by Israeli bombing with white phosphorus (a substance so nasty, it is outlawed internationally.
No wonder, Jesus talked about the Pharisees "swallowing a camel, but straining at a gnat".
Truly, the mother of all evil is the lie – and we have adapted the lie as a convenient way of getting what we want.
The standard division of labour. The EU makes peace, the US makes war. Seeking peace while preparing for war are not incompatible, they are complementary. Clearly, the EU leaders cannot approach Putin with a peace plan while calling for arms for Ukraine, so they say publicly that they don't want arms. Nobody is fooled in Europe, least of all Putin. If he wants EU peace, he can have it. If not, he'll get US war.
It's starting to look like the Europeans have decided that World War III doesn't sound very appetizing after all. Merkel and Hollande have sent a very loud message that even DC Dunces can hear: This weekend they are meeting with Putin while the every hapless Kerry has been left cooling his heels in Berlin with the other EU foreign and war ministers. I can hardly imagine a bigger insult to Mighty America, except maybe Nutty Yahoo's impending speech to Congress.
This calls for more US propaganda spin and more demonization of Putin. It will never do having people of the world understanding that both sides and the Europeans are working for peace as the US tries to escalate the killing.
I soon expect the news media and Neocon talking heads to start likening Angela Merkel and Francois Hollande to Neville Chambertain.
Maybe. As Eric Margolis has said the neocons are mainly about the middle east. They would weaken anyone including Russia if it helps that goal.
Antiwar's Entry was well written.
2015: Ukraine. The fiction of a Ukrainian with borders from its 1991 breakup minus Crimea exist in the diplomatic world. 60% and 55% relatively of the Donetsk and Lugansk oblast (state/territory) are in control of the Donesk and Lugansk People's Republic. Germany and France want a demilitarized zone. In International Relations, the word defacto is used. Russia has made it clear to the world, despite the hopes of the US administration or the Kiev Poroshenko led government, that the DNP and LPR (NovoRossia) will not be conquered. It reminds me of the political situation on Cyprus where part is Greek and the other Turkish. I believe France would settle for a similar outcome.
