With the Minsk talks on resuming the Ukraine ceasefire ending in failure (and the US not playing any part to begin with) the Obama Administration is said to be taking another long look at arming the Ukrainian military to fight the civil war.
Officials say the latest round of consideration comes amid pressure from NATO military commander Gen. Philip Breedlove, who thinks direct arming of the Ukrainian military would put them in a better position.
The US has been egging on the Ukrainian government in the war against the rebel east, but the easterners have been holding their own with a combination of looted Ukrainian weapons and other arms smuggled in from neighboring Russia.
The Administration continues to insist they want to see a “diplomatic” solution, but have also made it clear they oppose giving the easterners any concessions, meaning the only diplomatic solution they support is unconditional surrender by the east.

Not that US would complain. It's always willing to arm anyone willing to pull a trigger and even those who aren't. As long as DC gets to redistribute US taxpayer money, it'll arm orangutans if necessary to keep the weapons mobsters rich.
Arming the Ukraines isn’t that what the US is claiming the Russians are doing? Yet, nay a mention about the five Billion the US spent on the original coup of an elected government!
From the beginning of bombing Dombass region, the strategy was always the same: bomb water points, electricity supplies, some schools and hospitals.Then send some special forces in order to kill some representatives of separatists.With american arms it will be more effeficient.We forgot that some members of the russian parlement already said : if USA send weapons ,we will do the same.It would be a nice starting of WW3. If proposed diplomatic solution accrding US and Kiev was implemented, then East Ukraine /Ukraine people/ would end up like Palestine people. Horrors of cccupation and represion also endless hunt for opposition would make this part of Ukraine "torture place" like that in Quantanamo….

Russia did not become the super power that it is being so stupid as Gen. Breedlove seems to think it be. For if Western arms or NATO troops should enter this civil war, Russia has no choice put an invasion and a fascist coup quick destruction.
Fact is, looks to me like Russia is using Ukraine as sucker bait to get the West into a situation where when Russian troops overthrow the fascist Ukraine government, NATO will look totally stupid and gutless.

All of this mess was created by Victoria Nuland. Ukraine's (and Europe's) logical response to the US is "you broke it, you fix it". Moving on to arming Ukraine is a step in the right direction. Sooner or later, the Ukrainians will have to drive Putin's mercenaries out of Donetsk and Lugansk, since it's perfectly clear that those two provinces are only the first stage in a plan to get land access to Crimea. That in its turn raises the suspicion that he will then want access to Kaliningrad, which involves annexing three NATO members. That is more than enough to engage Article 5 of the NATO Treaty. As with Milosevic, US air power will almost certainly be needed to eject Putin from Ukraine (and, ideally, also from office). Another monumental neocon screw-up!

Well, if they don't under Obama you Americans can be sure they will under the next president. To many of youou people are thinking of this as domestic politics and thinking more of yourselves, rather than just understanding that it's the US that is the warmongering pariah nation. You all need to look at the bigger picture and consider what your country is doing to it's victims.

Sure, arming a reluctant ally to fight a committed opposition for reasons that make sense only to us seems to always work – let's recount the successes: Iraq, Afghanistan, South Vietnam, …Most of us forget South Vietnam, on purpose. Another case of us promoting a civil war, and insisting that the losing side take our stingy provisions and add their copious blood, until they lose big and then we will forget them. Poor Ukraine, being taken for another ride to nowhere. Right now they are a bankrupt "rustbucket" – wait another five years and they will be Europe's Libya.
