Israel’s internal spy agency Shin Bet has reported foiling an “extensive” Hamas cell operating out of the West Bank which has planning to carry out multiple targets against Israelis.
Israeli officials claimed the cell was discovered to have “received orders and training from operatives in Turkey,” accusing Turkey of harboring Hamas leaders and warning it was behavior unbecoming of a NATO member nation.
Israeli officials went on to say this was the second time they’d found a Hamas wing engaged in major plotting with ties to Turkey, the other being a summer plot to overthrow Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.
Details are scant on what the cell was actually intending to target, and officials say they don’t believe anything was imminent. The one potential target referenced repeatedly was Teddy Stadium, a massive soccer stadium in Jerusalem.
Since when does Israel have any standing or credentials to say what is or isn't the 'proper behavior' from a NATO member? Last I checked, Israel was neither a NATO member nor is it located anywhere near the North Atlantic. Regardless of that, does Israel really want to be turning on its only potential ally in the region? Israel and Turkey have pretty much kept a lid on things for quite a while and if Israel is of a mind to start linking Turkey to Hamas in an attempt to have the 'terrorist sympathizer' label attached to them they in a a world of hurt. I don't think Israel wants to be antagonizing Turkey- which IS a NATO member- because these days Turkey knows it's getting the upper hand in the region and if Israel wants to up the ante Turkey will have the full weight of the already anti-Israel EU backing it.
On the other hand, sure Tel Aviv, go for it. Let's see how you fare against ALL of your neighbors as well as the EU and NATO in a shoot-out. One has to wonder if the US will honor its written an sworn commitment to NATO or side with Israel, with whom we have no mutual defense treaty. Are you really that delusional that you're willing to risk the existence of your tiny nation to find out?
