ISIS fighters attempting to attack the Tabqa air base in Raqqa Province, a key ISIS stronghold, were ambushed by Syrian troops who anticipated the attack and hit them on the road, killing scores.
The death toll varies wildly in different reports, with Syrian state media saying “dozens” and later revising it to “scores,” while Lebanese media were reporting as many as 150 ISIS fighters slain.
Raqqa is ISIS de facto capital city, and they have been trying to mop up the last Syrian military bases in the area recently. The air base seems to be a tough nut to crack, however, especially with the offensives so heavily anticipated.
Syria’s remaining airfields in the nation’s east are all effectively in ISIS territory now, though so far the airfields themselves have not fallen, and the Syrian military obviously has major interests in holding them as long as possible.
At least some good news.
Killing even one of these savages from hell, Saudi Arabia and UAE barbarians is a victory for humanity. Killing scores of the these savages the EU/USG/noble peace prize comity needs to give their best price they have to the Syrian government and all other people who fighting these barbarians.
" the nation’s east are all effectively in ISIS territory now".
Ditz seems to have the same problem with maps as most other Americans..
ISIS controls TWO towns in the north, with an awful lot of sand in between but that can hardly be described as they own "all of the north".
You can occupy two small islands in Greece, but that doesn´t mean you occupy the entire Aegean (check the map) now does it? al Qamishli, another major town further north, to the border with turkey, remain under governmental control, as well as all major military bases of importance up there.
al Raqqa is in the middle of the desert, on the Euphrate and not strategically important. If SAA wanted, it could retake it in a matter of day´s if not hours but it has been proven more convenient to keep the major part of those US/israeli/Saudi supported freaks in there, and not all over the place and they are well surrounded by bases and regularly bombed to make it stay that way until Syria decides otherwise.
Syria should be supported in their efforts to defeat ISIS. It's ironic that it was the US and some of the Arab states (and may be Israel) who provided weapons to ISIS in the mistaken belief that the "good guys" of ISIS would be able to defeat Assad. They need Assad as an ally. Iran and Syria can surely defeat ISIS without getting the US involved.
This should be fun, lets wait and see if the US will strike ISIS in Syria, known very well they'll be fighting along side Hezbollah, Iran, and Assad all on the US terrorist list.
And the losers in the Obama Administration and Congress want to remove the Assad govt? Not logical at all. They should be congratulating his military.
Yes, good point. There is that old saying, the perfect is the enemy of the good. Or put another way, the bad is the enemy of the worse.
