A week and a half ago, President Obama broke his “no boots on the ground” pledge, sending 300 military advisers to Iraq. At the time, administration officials explained it by claiming they weren’t technically combat troops, and that the pledge was simply not to send “combat troops” to Iraq.
That didn’t last long either, and today the administration informed Congress of their intention under the US War Powers Act to send “at least 200” combat troops to Iraq, aimed at increasing the military force at the US embassy and posts at the airport.
CNN is reporting that in addition to the 200 combat troops reported to Congress, another 100 troops who were in the area are moving into Iraq. These troops are in addition to the 300 troops already guarding the embassy and 300 “advisers” announced last week.
Only 180 of the advisers are here so far, so about 800 US troops are in Iraq now, with expectations of further increases going forward, including support staff for the new combat forces and for the Joint Operations post in Baghdad, which is what the advisers are running.
This time next year the number will be 30,000.
Next month, surely?
As soon as the first US casualty happens, they'll bump that number 10x. Like anndoc, within the month. The American people can stop this…but will they?
Not if they think Netanyahu is right about killing people who live near Hamas in revenge. A few brutal attacks on US troops, something like the gates of Fallujah incident (albeit against Blackwater) and you might even have a draft. Prepare those prosthetic legs! Change the hospital beds at the VA! There's a whole chunk of kids underwater with student loans who cannot find work in a robotizing society like ours. Let them be fodder for a mindless and immoral war which never ends.
Advisers for Madame Nhu!
Barack Hussein Obama doesn't know and don't want to know, but he knows that his politics in middle east is a lost love and for that reason he is doing what Neo cons, Saudis, Kuwaitis and Qatari been asking him the ultimate question, can you divide Iraq, yes we can. Meanwhile the hundreds of brand new Toyota thundera where the Saudis, Kuwaitis and Qatari savages were riding on didn't dropped from sky, these people were riding it when it was given to them by the Turkish Erdogan government. USG needs new faces in its warmongering politics, they have started with Japan and their supply of hundreds of Toyota where such giving is approves to be the start of a more military and political cooperation down the line.
Haven't we seen this script played out before?
Kennedy started out sending "advisors" to Saigon…what is it with Dems and "advisors?"
One can only imagine when the Battalions, Divisions & Corps will follow…IMPEACH & REMOVE this TRAITOROUS WARMONGER..NOW..
Dat's rayciss!!! /sarc
The USG can also use its (Guns For Hire), including murdering scum
Blackwater aka (Xe)(Academi), or whatever it's calling itself today.
This type of trash is above the law. Reportedly, one of its members
had boasted he would (kill) a USG State Dept investigator.
So are we all going to call our congressional leaders and demand some accountability? If we do call will they listen to us and do their duty to uphold the Constitution? Enough with the Executive power trip and the lies already!
America had its chance to repeal the AUMF but wouldn't and Didn't, because of it he will not be breaking US law to send in the troops, this is an offshoot of Al Qaeda! Want to blame someone Blame Bush he effectively caused the Iraq problem over a decade and several trillion dollars ago!
Yep, the AUMF…the gift that keeps on giving to the defense department and all points beyond. When you have a standing ARMY and carte blanche to prosecute war either surreptitiously (JSOC) or overtly [Iraq] them "bring 'em on"!
