The State Department is using the Ukraine dispute as a chance to insinuate themselves deeper anywhere and everywhere, today pledging a $10 million increase in “border security” aid to Moldova.
The pledge comes as Moldova considers an EU trade deal, which the US has made clear it expects Moldova to accept. A similar trade deal was rejected by Ukraine, leading to pro-West protests and regime change, and the new regime pretty much instantly signed the deal.
The State Department couched the aid as bolstering Moldova’s “territorial integrity,” as tensions continue to rise with breakaway border region Transnistria.
Western officials have tried to link Transnistria’s long-standing efforts to secede with the recent Crimea secession, and have suggested Russia might somehow invade Moldova, which it doesn’t border in the first place, as its “next stop” after annexing Crimea.
It is entirely evident that the USG and the State Dept in particular have jumped the shark and gone completely around the bend…ok – enough bad cliches…
Seriously, wtf are these people in DC doing? Has the campaign to Empire totally excluded level-headed reason and diplomacy? If the conspiracy theorists were looking for the tripwire of the next big war, the current government (US) is setting the table for that one single accidental incident. Preparing the board with so many possible aspects that can go wrong will surely guarantee that it happens.
Yes, their recent setbacks in Syria and Crimea have caused them to increase the pool of intervenable trouble spots.
The problem with Transnistria is that it is yet another of Satlin's attempts to colonise the non-Russian area of the Soviet Union. Moldova (Bessarabia) was seized by Stalin from Romania in 1940. Transnistria (called Moldavia) was part of Ukraine at that point and was transferred to the new "Moldavia". Transnistria is occupied by Russian troops, without any legal basis, it should be said. That's probably why Putin wants to grab Southern Ukraine. Obviously, the US wants to stop him, but will it do more than talk? As always, it depends on just how powerful the Israel Lobby is.
Meanwhile our very own border is a shambles.
A lot of legacy need to be solved!
