After a lot of feigned hand-wringing about the legality of assassinating American citizens without any judicial oversight, the next of us to go is now just a matter of time, and remains totally up to President Obama.
Officials confirm that Obama and “various commanders in the US military” are having discussions about an as-yet-unnamed American citizen who may or may not be summarily executed at some point in the near future.
We don’t know who he is, or where he is, but we do know the excuse that he’s “involved with al-Qaeda,” an allegation that will never actually need to be defended in court.
Pentagon officials say the question is pretty much an academic one at this point, and comes down to whether the president deems killing him as worth the “potential domestic fallout” of yet another extrajudicial killing of an American citizen.
The administration made a big deal of building up a putative secret case against Anwar al-Awlaqi, or at least repeating the same allegations often enough that his assassination wasn’t met with a huge backlash, though in the wake of his death the administration killed two other Americans, including Awlaqi’s son, in such a haphazard way it seemed killing Americans at will was just the “new normal.”
The Justice Department will no doubt argue that it is the new normal from a legal perspective, but having dispensed with the legal questions surrounding killing people without any court involvement, officials still apparently fear there will be some backlash if they start making a habit of it.
This is all part of the trend toward the collapse of American society. Cannibalization of the people economically, socially and literally.
Everything is moving toward the right, the one percent in control and slowly turning the screws on the rest, even the 2 percent. Rich eating the poor and other rich peoples wealth.
It will continue for quite some time. The Democrats may unleash a temporary violent counter reaction with their phony emphasis on "inequality".
The reason the Wolf of Wall Street got bad reviews, saying it glorified indulgence is because that's what the one per centers want the left to think. It didn't glorify them. It was a story and it wasn't very political.
What is this 'left' of which you speak? To the rest of the world, the US 'left' is the 'right' and the 'tight' is the 'extreme right'
Amerika is on a very slippery slope indeed. To the nether world and ultimate destruction. Perhaps the population at large deserves this for their apathy & stupidity.
The possibility existed to snip these kind of "cowboy" extralegal activities of the government when Obama took office in 2009 by actively prosecuting those responsible for all the unconstitutional policies and procedures they put in place. The fact that they "looked forward not backward" made it clear from the beginning that Obama was cut from the same cloth as his predecessor.

The US government is "involved with al-Qaeda" in Syria. Does Obama plan on sending drones against the CIA, or targeting John Kerry in his bed? It's rather odd that this is even being discussed when the whole thing could have been done in secret, like so much of what the government does, without the need for hypocritical hand-wringing. This action is to demonstrate that the US government can do what it wants, when it wants, to who it wants, regardless of domestic and international laws to the contrary.
And this next murder isn't going to keep the government zombie from lecturing the rest of the world about rule of law, democracy, independence of powers, etc.
The slide to banana republic which started in 1945 gathers speed.
started before 1776
There's a lot that hasn't been said about this, otherwise the administration would have just gone ahead and killed the guy and not said a word about it other than as a statistic.
On the other hand, we have plenty of Bad Guys ™ right here at home who pose much more of a threat to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness than any terrorist could dream of; we've got gangsters and mobsters and street thugs and white collar criminals galore who are rending the very fabric of our society apart- and the sad thing is we know who and where they are, why are we not simply taking them out of the picture? You can't tell me that it's easier to legally justify a drone strike on a mysterious unnamed person overseas than it is to throw a case file out on any number of thugs out there and send in the black bag team to kill or capture them. We've got our priorities seriously mixed up here and it will be our undoing if we don't get sorted out very quickly.
Sickening.
