A growing diplomatic row between India and the United States over the mistreatment of deputy consular general Devyani Khobragade, arrested last week on charges of submitting a false visa application for her housekeeper/babysitter.
Khobragade, who was released almost immediately after the arrest, reports she was subjected to multiple strip searches, cavity searches and swabbings, and that officials ignored her protestations of consular immunity.
The Indian government has issued several formal complaints, and has retaliated by cancelling airport passes for US diplomats. They have also transferred Khobragade to the UN Embassy in New York, where she would enjoy even broader diplomatic immunity.
The US State Department, which was involved in Khobragade’s arrest and mistreatment in custody, has so far reacted by issuing “warnings” to India that the US expects them to protect the US embassy in New Dehli. India removed a series of concrete barricades from the area around the embassy, citing traffic problems they caused.
Just like in democratic AMERIKA…Imagine that !
Well, Mike, the USSA is becoming ever closer and closer to resembling Bolshevik Russia under Josef Stalin, with the NKVD and Cheka manning the security posts.
I'm 100% with India's Deputy Consul General Davyani Khobragade on this one. What the hell were those goons doing, sexually assaulting an Indian diplomat? Every one of those criminals must be arrested and prosecuted for felonious sexual assault upon a foreign diplomat. Who in hell will they sexually assault next? Germany's Chancellor Angela Merkel?
Let's dismantle this rogue agency ASAP, before the USSA's already tattered reputation is totally demolished; and, while we're at it, call for Bathhouse Barry's IMPEACHMENT.
I bet the pigs laughed while they did it.
The exceptional nation just keeps doing it best to anger everybody within its own country (except the transnational corporation mobsters) and everyone else in the world (except for israel). Way to go.

The jewish settlers on Palestinian lands control America.
The U.S. is a bully. We kill people with drones just to prove who is really boss. I hope India continues to push back
Isnt it Interesting a US NON Diplomatic non staff member shoots someone dead on the streets of Pakistan and the US Demands Diplomatic immunity yet an Indian woman WITH Diplomatic Immunity is arrested and strip searched in the US and denied her Diplomatic status, American double standards at work again
That means by the way America is excepted from the laws it expects every one else to obey for Americans!
The US government is deliberately destroying it's own immune system by such acts.
Nice to highlight what 'the land of the free' really does, really looks like. But now I'm sure there's a ton of people not so 'important' getting the same…

America was never the land and the free just ask the native americans and the blacks.
i have read many comments in other forums to the effect that the indian dip in question deserved to be treated in a most undiplomatic/tactless way over an employment dispute and administrative/immigration [ apparent false declaration] matter…..now, it is interesting to compare this incident and the official approach/taking of the moral high ground with the apparent Us govt's actions when one of its own dips appears to have transgressed in a more horrendous way in kenya- a hit and run…. .
according to the USa today report":after the US dip allegedly caused a traffic accident in niarobi ,resulting in the death of a man who had a pregnant wife and children the 'U.S. Embassy officials in Nairobi rushed the American and his family out of Kenya the next day, '…..
double standards?
Shades of the british empire in India America/Britain mother and daughter.
I'm sure India, and many other countries too, can afford to sever diplomatic ties with the US.
The amount of money the US sends to these countries is obscene – they won't quickly give it up. But don't be too surprised when American diplomats (and their wives and daughters – and sons, too, in certain parts of the world) start getting detained and groped and prodded and invaded by agents of the state. Only fair, I guess.
The USG seems to be hell-bent on destroying the general good will being an American used to enjoy when traveling the world.
C'mon! What's a llittle cavity search? She probably liked it.
Any patriotic Americans would.
What kind of fucking country are we now that we conduct strip searches for individuals who are accused of, at worst, falsifying paperwork? And then add to that the fact that this was a diplomat. Really despicable. I've said it before. I consider myself a liberal, but sometimes I feel like I have more in common with Patriot movement milita members. We have to draw the line somewhere.
Strip searching for crimes when there is nothing about the crime itself to lead authorities to suspect concealed objects or substances is completely outrageous.
This government disgusts me.
Sure, the USG was too heavy handed here, and routinely insists on double standards regarding its offending staff abroad (e.g., Raymond Davis). However, the diplomat was in gross violation of local labour laws, having imported a servant and retained her on a pittance. Just because India has miserable prospects and remuneration for anyone who is not in government or IT does not mean that such norms should be imported to the US. The diplomat was not within her rights.

So much for recruiting India for an alliance against China.
Hey Trolly—next time your paperwork is called into question YOUR CAVITIES MAY ALSO BE VIOLATED–YOU WANT THAT? STOP DEFENDING THESE FILTHY ANIMALS ALREADY…
