The official story on Kenya’s Westgate Mall attack is that 67 people were killed and that number is “not expected to increase significantly.” That’s a flat out lie, according to aid workers at the scene.
Rather, the number of missing continues to grow, with the Kenyan Red Cross saying 71 people are still unaccounted for, many of them believed to be buried in the rubble of the mall.
That toll is going to be a huge issue for the Kenyatta government, especially since it can’t seem to get its story straight on how the collapse that pinned so many people within occurred.
During yesterday’s declarations of “victory,” the Kenyatta government said a fire caused the collapse insisted that the militants started the fire for some unknown reason. Yet earlier in the week, top officials had claimed that Kenyan security forces started the fire as a “tactic” during the multi-day siege.
Setting a mall full of hostages on fire doesn’t seem like a great tactic to begin with, but if indeed it ended up crushing a large number of those hostages to death, it is going to increase questions.
The whole story is being swept under the rug due to the incredible blow back caused by U.S. interventionist policy in Somalia. The facts of U.S. meddling for the last decade and the connection to Kenya and Ethiopia are so obvious yet never mention by the main stream print and broadcast media. The Star Tribune did not even allow comment on the story for days after the attack. Now the Strib. has already pushed the story to the back burner. Once again U.S. imperial intervention has failed so miserably the only thing to do is bury the story and make it go away.
Every action have a reaction, you shoot and kill people you have
To expect some kind of reaction, the world is gone crazy, people
Should stop meddling in other peoples affairs, live and let live, you
Have your way of life, let me have mine.
This seems a lot like Waco. "why would they set a fire that kills them and their hostages" "I don't know but the Government never messes up so it must be because they where religious nut jobs.". We can never know for sure either way.
Meanwhile, police intensified the hunt for the terrorist links, arresting a Turkish national yesterday in connection with the tragedy…The Turkish man being held at an unknown location is under probe by US, British and Israeli agencies over his alleged link to the attack. Police sources told The People the man was arrested as he attempted to flee from his apartment located just 100 metres from the ill-fated mall… http://www.thepeople.co.ke/23112/remains-of-westg…
first we had the confirmed Brit, Abdulrazak Sharif Ahmed, (15 seconds in) on his way to Turkey & now the above – interesting.
This whole ordeal has a fishy smell to it.
