Normally, when Israel finds itself at the center of a US war argument, it is Israeli officials that put themselves there. In Syria, it has been the Obama Administration’s choice, as they try to paint their plans to attack Syria as about “protecting Israel.”
That’s part of the rhetorical battle that Secretary of State John Kerry and others seem desperate to push, and the State Department announced today that Kerry had called Netanyahu to “reassure” him of the administration’s continued intention to attack Syria.
That call might play well in lobbying to Congress, but it reportedly doesn’t sit well with much of Israel’s leadership, which is said to be extremely uncomfortable with the Obama Administration’s decision to make the war somehow about them.
It’s not surprising, either, for while many in Israel already feared that the US attack on Syria would expose them to “retaliatory” strikes, the Obama Administration’s efforts to brand it as a war for Israel have made it virtually a foregone conclusion that the victims of the US strikes will see them as coming on behalf of Israel.
When it comes to Israel and Saudi Arabia, anything and no questions asked. In the other hand if Obama orders the attack on Syria then he needs help from some allies, now that muslims brotherhood is no longer there to guarantee and participate in attacking Syria, so the question remains, who is closer and better located then Israelis, Turkey, Jordanian and above all Saudi Arabia. Don't believe a word from Jordan kingdoms or the Turkish or others saying that they won't participate, they all are up to their neck and participating in full contests in Syria war one way or the other. Look at Syria as a cake and its enemies as flys hovering around to suck in the Syrian people blood.
Everyone knows that rebels and Saudis mercenaries and others losing the war, not the battle for a city or a region but the war, which is the reason for USA wanting to attack Syria. Question is, then what, what would anyone gain, a total ghost towns, no industry, even the industry machineries are stolen by the Rebels and sold in Turkey, so, who is it that USA want to punish beside American people, those (almost 70%) of Americans who opposes Hillary Clinton-Obama-US democratic party war on Syrian people's.
Well Saudi Arabia has oil, and a vital stake in America. And Israel has a vital stake in America too.
The only "vital stake" Israel has in America is the Congress they've bought – with our own money no doubt. The Administration's failure here is that they think the majority of the American people give a rats behind about Israel. Americans who have been paying attention have seen Israel continually piss on America while holding out their hands for American taxpayer dollars. It's time Israel had to pay, realistically and figuratively, for what they've done. They've been really bad neighbors in an area where they are surrounded and outnumbered.
What a clownshow. If the whole administration wanted to perform a skit about mentally challenged people randomly wanting to destroy something out of pure blind activism, they couldn't do it any better.
But this is a high drama skit. It's not like the high school talent show. Sort of like "Dr. Strangelove" as opposed to "Strategic Air Command".
One only good thing about this is the Obama is saying it's all about Israel.
Oh, and surely it has nothing to do with the poor little dears. What with the 'intelligence' that makes-the-case POTUS and SoS are standing behind coming from them and all. It's probably either include them or call them on it, "we're in lockstep with Israel" you see, and DC doesn't just call them liars. Whose idea was the Syria 'red line?' It was definitely Israeli noise that pushed a red-line policy on Iran's nuclear energy program -and then they run all the insinuations they can about the Iranians as well. Sure wasn't me telling him he needed yet another 'red line.' Who could/would get him to adopt one and why?
Our French allies apparently 'know all'. And that's why they're out there breaking wind and leading the charge. Or, at least, pointing the real warfighters toward the enema.
I can't agree. Unlike the US, Zionist Israel chooses its battles and does not overextend. While the dictators in Syria are not as compliant as the ones in Egypt, they're clearly not as defiant as old Libya or Iraq. Israel can deal with dictators. But deal with the arab street? Not so much.
Like the way they did not overextend in Lebanon in 2006? In Suez in 1956? In provoking the 1973 war? Tel Aviv is not that clever. Bowing down before the media propagated myth of Israeli intelligence is not helpful. Their record is a very mixed bag. Their prowess consists mostly of free American weaponry and the fortunate happenstance of being a third rate fighting force surrounded by fifth rate ones. America should not want to share a foxhole with Israel.
If your first statement is true…that US overextension doesn't cost Israel would explain it.
This is nuts. How is this supposed to help Israel? Saudi Arabia and Qatar sure, but Israel stands to lose what regional stability it has.

Assad is guilty of killing his people therefore we shall punish him by… killing his people. The truth is this attack is not to end the suffering but by tipping the balance slightly to the favor of the rebels to prolong the war so that more people are slaughtered. The whole plan originates in Israel which has been clamoring for and always celebrates the destruction and ruination of all their Arab neighbours save Saudi Arabia, which they are saving until last.
Netanyahu may be laying low, but his Israel Lobby inside the DC Beltway has been in full throated roar for the whole time.
What they so publicly want IS what Israel wants, whether it is politic to admit it in the Israeli press or not.
Once again, Netanyahu misleads. It ought to be assumed, because he is so consistent.

Personally, I don´t see it as Israel and the USA wanting the same thing, but more like the USA obeying direct orders from Israeli leaders and the Zionists.
USA and EU strategy in Middle East is always based on to defend and protect what is the English and USA creation, 1-Israel.2-Saudi Arabia. One is US muscle in terms of a apartheid regime, the other is supplying both sides free oil and gas as long as USA complies with their demands.
There is no qualitative difference between dying from Sarin gas and dying from phosphorus bombs which Israel dropped on the heads of Gaza civilians three years ago and which burn off all three layers of skin in 2 seconds, leaving behind a charred corpse, or dropping fuel air bombs which the US dropped on Iraqi civilians which exhaust all the oxygen overhead causing the victim's lungs to explode inside their chest, or dropping anti personnel bombs which the US dropped on both Iraqi and Afghan civilians which drive hundreds of metal fragments into soft tissue eviscerating vital organs and causing the victim to bleed to death from a hundred open wounds. As another poster stated, Obama speaks the truth when he says we are doing this for Israel. More dead Muslims, more billions spent on behalf of a country that has help American Middle East foreign policy hostage for the last forty years. Until we elect a president who is wiling to tell the American people that Israel is not an ally, but a liability and a leech, we are destined to bankrupt ourselves killing her enemies on her behalf while she grows ever richer and more powerful.
