Buried in a totally unrelated New York Times article about Jordan seeking more US aid for the Syrian border, Joint Chiefs of Staff Chief Gen. Martin Dempsey threw in comments on the prospect of the US invading Iran.
Discussing his recent meeting with Israeli leaders, Dempsey declared that the sanctions were “having an effect” on Iran, but that Israel wants the US to keep emphasizing the prospect of military action.
Of that, Dempsey insisted that “we have better military options than we did a year ago,” ominously adding that “we’ve continued to train and plan” for the invasion, threatened off and on by US and Israeli forces for 30 solid years.
Dempsey also suggested Israel’s goals in Syria were centered on Iran and the concern of Syria remaining an Iranian ally. This has been confirmed recently in comments by Israeli officials, but underscores a split in agendas, as some US officials have confirmed that a prevailing view in America’s own intelligence community is that regime change is the real threat, replacing Assad with an al-Qaeda dominated rebel government.
AhhhAAA
so our hostility toward syria IS all about iran and has nothing to do with Assad or democracy!
Well I think it's more the fact that Iran is funding the regime that's using gas on its own people, but that;s just me.
That's not just you, it's an assertion to prove and a widespread rumor. Those asserting it typically say things like it in order to sell a war, or they just parrot it when they bought it. Those rumors can become false pop history. If you think you can demonstrate it's truth, please do.
Off course is better then year ago, year ago US didn't have any missiles "defense" system stationed in Syrian-Turkish border, now they have, year ago US didn't have any missiles stationed in Jordan now they have.
We said it long time ago, USA is about to militaries the entire Middle East and every wars has given them more opportunity to do so, that is not because of the people in Middle East, that is because of Russia and Iran needs to be in circled, that is because USA wants to start the Third World War in real time, this time with Saudis and UAE partricipitation, giving them a religious control of northern part of Persian gulf, that is because USA cannot stand the economic development of India, China, South Africa and South America, these countries development is the hinder for US world domination , Paul Wolfowitz the father of all American Zionism have said so.
Ignoring the stuff about global war, let's talk about encircling Iran. It's impossible because the mullahs have their greedy little fingers funding every terror organization they can get their hands on in the region, they're the war mongers, not the U.S.
That'd be quite a grand thesis. How bout starting with how US propaganda and other operations in Latin America were really benign.
So its more acceptable to attack a country because the situation has "improved"? What is happening to America?
Maybe we need to look into getting support to resistance groups who oppose the Mullahs, it's time to let the Iranian people instead of the religious leaders choose.
What makes you think the US wants to overthrow the mullahs after working so hard to keep them in power for 30 years? If the US wanted the mullahs overthrown, they'd lift sanctions. The mullahs wouldn't last six months if they stood in between the Iranian people and free trade with the US and its sanctions allies.
The American people are in no mood to attack anybody. They are mor interested in medicine, education and work.
How could we expect Dempsey to abandon his malicious ways without crippling sanctions? While grocery stores and pharmacies are still accepting his credit cards? While we're paying him six figures? While he still weighs over 90lbs?
I hope this is just how they're stuck talking to the Jewish lobby via public remarks. Years ago now: ~'I don't want to be complicit in a war on Iran.' hmmm. Maybe that had more to do with lack of preparation. If he ends up complicit, I won't forgive him that new GWoT-Stain on my working whites.
What about the iranian lobbyists like NIAC? They just want to give the regime time enough to get a bomb.
May I ask how much you currently weigh? I mean, how could we expect for you to give up your terrorist ways when … 🙂
Giving you the benefit of doubt on the goboomboom bit, things you would have missed include how old a rumor it is, what a standard it's been otherwise (same pattern with Iraq), whose standard it's been, and especially it's amazing date-setting feature: http://www.wideasleepinamerica.com/2010/12/phantom-menac... and audio discussion http://scotthorton.org/2011/01/11/antiwar-radio-n… ; http://www.mcclatchydc.com/2012/03/07/141119/israel-push... . As well, you probably missed reasons to enrich other than goboomboom http://news.antiwar.com/2013/06/18/russian-fm-ira… , and the similar treatment of dozens of other countries by the same inspecting authority http://news.antiwar.com/2013/06/07/iaea-nearly-ha…
In general, 'the enemy' is any or all of 1) kicking puppies, 2) scary to the home team, 3) developing a phasor death ray (to be operational next week), 4) using exotic death magic on said puppies, 5) is partial to an ideology, purported to predispose him to violence, other than limitless and unaccountable printing of money into existence as a loan at interest. In reality, he's 'non-compliant' in completely unrelated ways. But hey, tell me all about NIAC! Surely you could point to congress creatures parroting them and swearing their loyalty to Iran!!!
Another war against another Muslim majority country that does not and has not threatened America, in the neighborhood of pIsrael. Oh but it's about the oil, right? Not democracy as Iran has more of that than any other country there!
Whatever you say, Demps. Make sure you have a front seat view for the conflagration.
Are they a threat to us? No. A threat to the rest of the region? Yes. Ask the Syrians dying due to Iranian weapons, and regime soldiers trained by the IRGC.
The same rhetorical pattern ran with Iraq. It begins with a lot of talk that does indeed expand a threat ad infinitum, but either after the fact, or just when challenged, one finds GWoT-Suckers can't continue to assert 'the enemy' was/is a threat to 'us.' They like to fall back on something local that they also don't understand and can't be troubled to prove.
It doesn't matter what the CIA thinks is the main threat – Assad or the Salafist insurgents. The entire purpose of this crisis is to degrade Syria's and Hizballah's missile arsenals so they cannot be effective actors in an Iran war. Dempsey is right that this is Israel's primary goal in the Syria crisis. This is why Israel is becoming more strident in urging US military action against Syria and why Nasrallah is predicting another Israeli invasion of Lebanon – because only if Syria is under air attack by the US and NATO is an Israeli invasion through the Bekaa Valley feasible – as I've said here a hundred times.
The ultimate goal is to get an Iran war started. The main reason it hasn't started yet is because Israel doesn't want to deal with Syria, Hizballah AND Iran all at once.
Syria is just the gateway to Iran, why do you think they are sleeping with al-Qaeda now, and if al-Qaeda comes out on top watch and see how fast the honeymoon will end.
quite pathetic to see another us general going spineless before israeli fascists. Is the lobby so strong as to derail dempsey career and retirement or is he auditioning for a job after his mil career
I suspect that Dempsi's comment was not that serious. It is probably just a throw-away-line for Israel's benefit. Of course, our military situation in the ME is changing all the time. But one thing that has not changed in the last six years is that Iran has the capacity to sink US warships in the Persian Gulf. If we attack Iran then we can kiss the 5th Fleet goodbye. The US Navy knows this as well as I do.
these warmongers are so full of themselves. They aren't …normal.
