In a meeting with European Union ambassadors, Israeli National Security Advisor Yaakov Amidror declared the Syrian government’s imminent acquisition of S-300 anti-aircraft missiles to be a “red line” that would obligate Israeli military action to prevent them becoming operational.
The S-300’s are the pride of Russia’s air defense arsenal, and Syria is eager to acquire them after several recent Israeli air strikes, which their existing defensive systems proved unable to prevent. Russia insisted that since the system is purely defensive, and the rebels don’t have any aircraft, the missiles are unrelated to the ongoing Syrian Civil War and they see no reason to delay delivery.
The comments come just a day after Israeli Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon suggested in an interview that Israel might attack the Russian Navy in an attempt to sink the ships and prevent the delivery. That is seen as extremely unlikely given Russia’s military capabilities.
The issue is two-fold for Israel, with the public claim being that the S-300’s range would, assuming the missiles were parked along the border, allow Syria to attack planes in Israeli air space and turn Israel into a “no-fly zone.” Privately, the indications are that the real opposition stems from the S-300 making future Israeli attacks much less convenient.
The prospect of Israel attacking Syria seems entirely possible, since the Israeli government does this seemingly randomly once in awhile anyhow. Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Moallem insists that Syria will immediately retaliate if Israel attacks yet again, though Israeli officials have repeatedly said they don’t expect Syria to do so, and actually warned Syria not to even attempt to defend itself if and when Israel launches more attacks on them.
"We kill native non-jews of Semitic Arabic origin and occupie their lands, and we are darn good at it. Those are your enemies too and you should be grateful. We can´t allow these untermenschen to actually be able to defend themselves and their countries we intend to annex to our Eretz israel, that´s not fair and gives us a major disadvantage"
This apartheid regime needs to wake up and smell the bombs…, they need to rethink their "redline" strategy and see the reality.., that they are on their own from now on. Unless USA and EU start sending NATO militarism into action.., thus far…., no sign of any kind of this.., but do you trust Israel or USA and EU foreign policy??, I wouldn't give a penny for your thoughts.
So will the Israeli's tell the Russians to "not bother defending themselves" if they should launch an attack against them? The Israeli's are nothing but bullies who have become quite adept at terrorizing defenseless Palestinians & pounding weak Arab opponents who are incapable of fighting back. Now they have the audacity to threaten Syria over acquiring weapons to defend themselves from them!?!
As dangerous of an escalation as it would be, there is a part of me that wishes the IDF would attack the Russians so they could get a real lesson in humility.
To add to the lesson Putin gave Bibi when he "demanded" that Russia did not supply the S-300 to Syria.
They would not dare at this point their as++ is sucking air.and syria/Lebanon will be able to at least defend themselves.
Russian fighter planes will be accompanying these deliveries. So any Israeli fighters that show up will be flamed from the skies because Russia will have the permission to be in Syrian air space. In the event that any Russian craft are engaged by the Israeli's then it is a blatant act of war with Russia and Israeli towns will be bombed.
So what it all comes down to now is . . . do you feel lucky punk ? ? ?
Israel has reached the "All talk, no action"-threshold.
And here's why: One can bet that the russian missile carriers delivering the S-300 to their final destination in Syria will be accompanied by russian guards and, when deployed, will be manned by russian soldiers and instructors, too, while the Syrians learn to handle them.
So ANY attack on a S-300-transport or a missile site in Syria by Israel will inadvertendly trigger a massive russian military response.
Casus belli – anyone?
Israel knows that for sure – if only, because they have been informed by Russia of that beforehand.
So there's the actual reason why the israeli dog is barking like mad at the russian S-300s en-route to Syria, actually:
Because it's chained and cannot bite.
Yeah. Would love to see Isreal attack a Russian ship or aircraft. All talk no balls.
They will get licked up so bad they would not have the time to murder the Palestinians/Lebanese/Syrians.
Where are the yankees in all this "OUTSIDE"
It looks like Israel might be a bit late with its threats

Come on Russia, live up to your commitments to Syria…or is the country which gutted the Nazi war machine afraid of israel?
See post above
I think Israel knows that the end of their shtty little country is near anyway, so they might just commit suicide by attacking the Russian ships. That way they pull the temple down around them by starting a nuclear confrontation that will wipe themselves out along with much of the rest of the world.
world war Z….hummm I wonder what that means…
the zionists war on the world…seems to me
eventually they are going to get it.. I hope
I wish, no, I hope Israel would try it. After they get wiped out the world can get back to a peaceful co-existence.
Israel if I recall correctly has never fought against a modern well-equipped military in its entire history of existence. Why would they start now?
Last time little Hezbollah abused and embarrassed them…and they are a mere militia! Keep barking little doggie. No one who isn't on the payroll is paying any attention.

How can a defensive weapon possibly be any sort of red line? How insane is the world, when nations are warned not to prepare to defend against attack….at risk of being attacked for doing so. Israel's hubris lends credence to Syria's belief they really DO need these *DEFENSIVE* weapons.
President Putin must have been in stitches to have this zionist fool tell him not to sell his weapons to Syria at least he did nor order him out of the Kremlin.
uh-huh So now self-defence is illegal?
Is this like a rapist telling the victim not to fight back or it will be worse for them?
