Secretary of State John Kerry’s efforts to kickstart peace talks between Israel and the Palestinian Authority were quickly rebuffed by Israel a few days ago, when they refused to make proposed concessions. The Palestinians are now adding that Kerry’s own promises aren’t going to be enough for the talks to get going on their own.
After failing to get any concessions out of Israel, Kerry had sought to make up for it by promising significant US economic aid in an effort to get the West Bank economy, always on the brink of collapse, growing at least a little bit.
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas is reportedly staying firm on his demands, which at the moment center around Israel bringing some sort of proposed border for independent Palestine to the table.
Officials familiar with the situation say that Abbas believes the economic measures by Kerry might improve the PA’s standing for a few months, but that the long-term problems of being unable to move closer to statehood is the most serious for PA officials, especially with elections expected soon. If they can’t present some sort of proof that the next talks are making real progress toward a deal, officials seem to believe even holding them will be a drag on their election prospects.
Palestinians need to and surely understand that the only government which will betray them is the USA no matter of a color or what political party the president presents.., they all have lied before and they will lie again.., that is not because of saying.., that is because of they all have and already lying to their own people.., so how could they have any respect or wanting to be honest with any other nation while they are not honest with their own.
He better thread softly or the zionist will crap all over him as they did to his boss.
He does 'thread softly'. That's the problem. That's the problem with all American officials/politicians on this issue. They are timid and cautious to the extreme.
According to WikiLeak the Israeli was not interested in living side by side with their Arab neighbors in 1975 and they are not interested now. Well the evidence is clear now, who is the real terrorist.
Israel will never compromise with the Palestinians on anything, whether it's the borders or settlements. They want it all. Dosesn't that sound pretty consistent with what they have been
dong for sixty years? Ethnic cleansing, stealing land, extra judicial assassinationsand always
"lying". It must be a tradtion with this "pure Jewish" state. And they know that their "best friend"
the USA will always back them no matter what they do, criminal or not. Obama himself said
this!
They're not even promises. He's smart enough not to commit himself to 'promises'. They're just vague platitudes. Wishful thinking. Pipedreams. Poetic license. 'Facts on the ground' have already disqualified them even as he spoke. The mirage of the 'Peace Process' somewhere on the horizon, beyond our eyesight/lifetime. The 'legacy of hope': an abyss of despair hidden in the shadows of time.
The USG has a 16 trillion dollar external deficit and will have to default on the promises it made to its own citizens with respect to social security and medicare. Despite these facts Kerry has gone abroad and attempted to use taxpayer money to bribe the Palestinians into engaging in peace talks with an aparthied government bent on expansion and expulsion not peace. This is insane! The US government should start minding its own business, eliminate ALL foriegn aid (including to Israel), bring ALL the troops home, close all foriegn military bases, and cut the millitary budget at the very least in half. If anyone wants to do something to help the Palestinians, or the Israelis for that matter, they should do so on their own dime.
