Though only in office for a few weeks, Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman has dramatically redefined Israel’s official foreign policy on a number of fronts. His first major act was to declare the stalled peace talks with the Palestinians dead, sparking both international and domestic outrage. In his first media interview he announced that he was replacing Iran as Israel’s worst threat, bestowing that honor on Pakistan, and declared that the United States would accept any decision the Israeli government made on the peace process.
Now, having dispatched of Iran’s position as Israel’s gravest threat, Lieberman surprised even further by declaring that Israel would not attack Iran, even if international sanctions fail to convince Iran to abandon its civilian nuclear program.
Virtually the centerpiece of Israel’s foreign policy for the last several years has been its nearly weekly suggestions that they may attack Iran in the near future. Abandoning this policy would be a major change for Israel, and shocking coming from the hawkish Lieberman, whose previous cabinet position as Minister of Strategic Affairs was created specifically to coordinate military, intelligence and diplomatic initiatives against Iran.
Not that the foreign minister objects to the idea of attacking Iran. Instead, while he supports “severe sanctions, very severe sanctions,” and “harsher and more effective sanctions” at the moment, he said Israel should not be expected to “resolve militarily the entire world’s problem,” instead suggesting that “the United States, as the largest power in the world, take responsibility.”
its really simple if they attack iran on there own israel is over,
and on top of that why not just let the americans do the killing and dieing
and hey no point making peace with the neigbors who can't defend them selves
Israel is too insignificant to tackle Iran, and they knew it all along. They have only been releasing hot air, and there's no law against self-aggrandizement.
Given the reflex-driven lying that characterizes all statements coming from any politician, but especially Zionist ones, this means Israel will attack, for sure. Watch for it soon.
What does this mean for Pakistan? Af-Pak is bad enough, now neckless wonder Avigdor Lieberman rattles his saber… this seems like a cynical ploy to hop on the Af-Pak War Wagon. The Af-Pak cheerleaders, they can all have a big party together. There is plenty of room next to Cowboy Billy the Kristol and the Liberal Interventionist Antiwar Fakers who want to go-a-do-gooding, fixin' all the things someone done bad over there. Nevermind ya thinking that you'd be a hollerin' if Bush did it, it's Obama's turn to sit on the throne.
And now joining the party is Israel, they've come to Spread Democracy to Pakistan. Another group of fakers to fake it with.
I feel great sadness thinking of all the stress poor Fatass Americanus would feel if he had to deal with the threat of flying robots dropping bombs in his neighborhood. Obama can spread freedom to Joe McEverybody's house, and then Joan Walsh and the Liberal Interventionist do-gooders can come help Joe pick up the remains of his house, as long as there is no blood. Blood looks bad when you're trying to sell exceptional American do-gooding.
Lieberman, Bill Kristol, Joan Walsh, a gaggle of War Geese. 24/7 Intervention. Obama really is a post-partisan uniter!
I think Israel should attack Iran. Absolutely, just give that fat windbag Lieberman a gun and a parachute
and air drop him into Tehran. Ask him to give us a call after he's won and let us all know how it went..
Whats that Avigdor? You don't want to attack now when it's your ass on the line. I thought not. Hey
I might be on to a way towards global peace, just make the blowhards that really really want to start wars have to fight them.
This is a former bouncer from Moldova– an immigrant, mind you, who has called for the mass murder of Egyptians and the ethnic cleansing of the original inhabitants of Palestine. But what is most damning and revealing is the failure of the west to condemn his appointment as foreign minister. This reflects a moral relativism, to put it mildly. I am more convinced that it is indicative of the moral depravity that the west has adopted in its support of the usurping entity. This man is a fascist and racist but sadly reflective of Israeli society.
Because they don't have the balls to do that.
