They say that every cloud has a silver lining, but in the case of Secretary of State Hillary Clinton it seems that every morgue full of dead Shi’ites has a silver lining. For while analysts watched the massive death toll of the attacks in the past two days with grave concerns about the ramifications, Secretary Clinton insists that the killings are a sign “that Iraq is going in the right direction.”
“These are tragic and terrible events,” Clinton conceded, “but they do not reflect any diversion from the security progress that has been made.” At the same time, the primary reason for the visit was to reassure Iraq’s leaders that if the violence continues to worsen, the Obama Administration will back off its already neutered pullout plan. It seems the plan to remove many of the troops by August, 2010, while leaving up to 50,000 in the nation indefinitely beyond that is in more doubt with each bombing.
Thursday was the bloodiest day Iraq has seen in a year, with a pair of massive bombings killing over 90 people. Friday was a close second, however, with its two largest bombings killing at least 73. And while US officials are content to publicly dismiss anything which doesn’t fit neatly into the narrative of impending victory (Gen. Petraeus blamed the attacks on “Tunisians“), in Iraq’s capital, which bore the brunt of these attacks, the sense of rising danger is palpable.
Though noteworthy, these last few days were not, despite administration protestations, an isolated incident. Violence across Iraq has been rising for two months now, and the apparent falling out between the Shi’ite-led government and the US-backed Sunni Awakening Council has only added sparks to the sectarian powderkeg. One from which the US seems unwilling to extricate itself.
For cryin out loud, since we invaded and took out Sadaam, it's been a certainty that the Sunni's and Baathists (there ARE no Shia Baathistsz) were being targeted.
Now, as we need to ease out for financial reasons, it's not a surprise the Shia are gonna target the Sunnni Baathists, and ALL Sunni's, Awakening Sons, and all . . . . once we stop the payments to keep The Awakening from bombing the Shia.
This is a pure religious and insane clusterphuck we stepped into under BoyKing BushCO, and will continue to be the same once we begin to leave.
Once we destabilized Sadaam, we let the genies out of the bottles, and they are now gonna slaughter each other, based on tribal and religious bonds and hatreds.
That we can do anything about THAT, as we leave, is a laugh.
All BushCo did, was let the Shia triumph in a region they hadn't .
Nice work, Bush. Ya putz.
Now tell me why am I so surprised that the closer the time comes for the US to "leave" Iraq, that the more "violence" is seen coming back into vogue? Surely I would be totally wrong if I suggested that it might be "false flag operations to stir up the pot again, woudn't I? I mean surely the Americans would not dream of doing that, would they, notwithstanding their bombing of the Golden Mosque in Samarra that opened up the gates of hell for the Iraqi's? Of course not!
Also, the Sunni are apparently so amazingly stupid having been soundly defeated by the Shiaa and driven out of most of Baghdad, that they are now once again inciting the Shiaa to "finish them off" this time. Talk about a death wish! But then again we all know that the Sunni have nothing to do with these false flag operations that are now conveniently coming back into theor daily life.
I would wager that the violence will get more intense as the time for the US to leave (they will never leave) Iraq approaches. Any takers?
This all is quite predictable. The amount of money the U.S. spent to build the feces and urine filled Embassy in Iraq, and the size of the military bases, all tend to contradict this horse shit that there'd be any kind of drawdown or troop withdrawal from Iraq in the foreseeable future. I think people are far smarter than the media pundits give us credit for, at least we know that once you get past the 30 or so percent that buy the Faux Noize crap and propaganda, there's a good 70 percent of us who knew that the promise to leave Iraq was a bunch of horse crappola.
Hillary should just say; "uh, yeah…..damned straight…..depopulate the whole damned country, that's going in the RIGHT DIRECTION for SHELL, EXXON-MOBIL, AND BRITISH PETROLEUM!!!
Hillary is a joke, can you only begin to imagine how even with numnuts in office (the o-bomb-anation) how much worse the situation would be with her trying to drive this ship of state onto the beach. oh, but wait, she is doing precisely that from her lofty State Dept. perch, isn't she?
I know this is unwelcome here at warbot central, but the Baath party was explicitly secular and mainly Shia. Iraq has never had a civil war and the Arab population is heavily intermarried. The incomprehensibly ludicrous 'sectarian civil war' (desperately propagated by this site for 5 years now) announced by the equally ludicrous Zarqawi psyop program is seen by many Iraqis as an attempt by the occupiers to partition the Arab population into more manageable segments, like in Palestine.
but isnt this the change that everyone voted for HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA…….
