Several US officials including State Department, White House and Office of the Director of National Intelligence are issuing denials of a report that they had advanced knowledge of the attacks on the US embassy in Egypt and the Consulate in Benghazi, which killed the US Ambassador and several others.
The reports have centered around Britain’s The independent, which claimed the State Department had “credible information” 48 hours ahead of the Benghazi attack but gave no warning to anyone involved.
The White House says there is “no actionable intelligence” related to the attack and was certainly no advanced warning. The DNI office termed the newspaper’s report “absolutely wrong.”
Indeed, even at this point officials say they don’t have any positive evidence that the Libya attack was preplanned, though some officials have been speculating for days that this was the case, citing the method of strike.
Some officials are still maintaining that they were warned “there could be trouble” but that there was no specific threat warned about beyond the fact that the trailer for some movie was “gaining attention,” apparently referring to the Innocence of Muslims trailer causing protests nationwide.
The White House’s primary interest seems to be insisting that the attacks have nothing to do with their own policies, and that they are entirely a function of anger over the movie trailer. Though this appears to be the case in Egypt, the speculation about Benghazi’s attack remains that it was planned well before the trailer even came out.
"No actionable intelligence from Egypt and Libya" WOW, this is very good news. It means there are no Mossad and terrorism is put in check over there. It also means that the ex-leaders of those countries were US lackeys in spite of all the propaganda. The masks are falling.
Some people say that Benghazi doesn't even have an embassy.
It's amazing how transparent all these events are now. Israel can't get what they want, Obama surges in the polls, then WHAM "Muslim Extremists" start going crazy all over the world. Then somebody starts a rumor that the White House knew ahead of time these things were going to happen. This will probably fool the average American who only sees brown people burning flags and chanting incoherently, but to those who are paying attention we know exactly who is behind this and why. The goal is to pressure Obama into attacking Iran.
"The White House's [Barack, Hillary and cronies] primary interest seems to be insisting that the attacks have nothing to do with their own policies, and that they are entirely a function of anger over the movie trailer."
Now is Obama stupid or is he playing stupid? — or maybe he thinks everyone else is stupid. "Not my fault, you can't pin it on me. It's that idiotic film."
It’s pay-back for our Embassy ordering the brutal assination of Gaddafi.
Weather this was their purpose or not of their blaming….blaming Al-Qaeda for the embassy attack is less embarrassing than blaming a militia who the US helped in overthrowing Gaddafi.
But to Salafi extremists (even those helped by the US in Libya) their religion will always be first and their relations with the US last. They both used each other to accomplish their own ends, a shared end of getting rid of Gaddafi. And that's where similarities end.
The Benghazi attack shows the vulnerability of the U.S. with its huge army. Small, well-armed groups can attack when and wherever they like.
Big is not necessarily better in the modern world.
